Man, battery life for ICS LPY is quite bad. 57% with one hour 20 mins screen time plus awake like nearly 3 hours over 10 hours unplugged. Definitely needs serious improvement.

Hmm... can we use Gingerbread modems on ICS? I'm tempted to flash over LB1 modem to see if it improves battery life.

QUOTE(benny888 @ May 14 2012, 10:21 PM) It is very safe to flash any gb modem on any ics rom Thanks a lot uncle benny! I find my performance with 3G quite bad with XXLPT, plus I'm getting a ton of wakelocks related to l2_hsic so I want to try flashing back XXLB2 (reputedly best battery saving modem) to see if it makes battery life better. You cannot flash any gb kernel to replace any ics kernels I will report back later whether good or bad. |

QUOTE(Superman7 @ May 14 2012, 10:53 PM) I had problems with l2_hsic keeping my GNote from sleeping. The reason why I suspect modem is due to HSIC is supposedly the interface used by the chip to connect to the modem (yes modem is connected via USB lol). You can read a little about it here: http://www.grandmax.net/2011/10/samsungs-e...-technical.htmlBut I don't think it's related to the modem. l2_hsic is a kernel wakeup, probably it's related to the kernel instead of modem Thus... why I'm trying out LB2 modem, which is reputedly the best power-saving modem out for Note so far (in fact a lot of ROM cookers seem to prefer it). I was previously on DarkyROM 3.4 with the same modem and it was doing a good job at battery life. Anyways, flashed LB2 already. No problem with air interfaces so far, but the real test will be tomorrow |

QUOTE(Ema Tong @ May 14 2012, 11:10 PM) I'm getting more interested on Galaxy, and i'm going to get it this coming weekend! Depends on your needs. AP set is cheaper, but warranty might be iffy.. though personally if you don't use it heavy duty or do a lot of risky things (like flashing ROM's I'm going to buy this phone from an AP-dealer due to i have limited budget. So my question was this, is it ok buying an AP phone? Thanks to ur opinions and million of thankss I got my Note from AP shop, use for three months now no problem so far. Generally, Samsung products can say quite tahan... |

QUOTE(Ema Tong @ May 14 2012, 11:19 PM) Wow wow. Thanks! I think that's pretty normal usage. If i'm just simply using fews apps such as : - GSC, some FB apps games, normal websearch? And i do like to capture picture or video thru the phone camera, thats once of my hobby too. Music player is a must So it belong to heavy duty category? You might... want to get extra batteries or a powerbank if you use camera/video a lot. This post has been edited by kurogane: May 14 2012, 11:30 PM |

OK, I managed to somewhat get a little better battery life back on stock ICS XXLPY by doing three things:
1. Use LB2 modem 2. Uninstalled com.samsung.map (MessageNotificationService) 3. Disabled fast dormancy (in doubt, but no harm it seems!) After that, I noticed a big drop in the l2_hsic kernel wakelock and phone goes in to deep sleep a lot more now. Improved my battery life by 10% over the same usage pattern. This may or may not work for everyone, but so far I suspect the com.samsung.map is constantly doing something with the network thus generating a lot of wakelocks. Still can't get rid of the AudioOut_1 wakelocks though, but as of now, battery life is a little more acceptable to me. |

QUOTE(benny888 @ May 15 2012, 10:26 PM) Wait for mirror links Agree on the kalagas theme. I hope eybee releases a zip to flash back to normal theme.Main site OMG will take 20 hours!! So far tested criskelo v3, midteam 1.2, alba v2 n kingdroid 1.1 . My verdict all performance about same except kingdroid slight lag. Alba I was unable to sync my chrome bookmarks dunno why. Would recommend criskelo or midteam for now Rocket quite turn off as he uses kalagas theme which I find is too fancy n just horrible to me. But will still test it. ... seriously, Android themers |

Can't seem to download RocketROM... but the Kalagas theme is quite a turn off anyways.
Will continue to use German XXLPY, now with Supercharger changes in it, for this week and see if things slowly improve. |

Day 5 on German ICS XXLPY + XXLB2 modem + V6 Supercharger
![]() BBS Dump: » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Well the ROM seems to be settling down, but I still find the deepsleep a bit flaky. Guess it's a "feature" of Samsung ICS Overall though, phone battery usage is much more saner now though, compared to the 40-50% 'Awake' ratio previously. Wonder what is causing the deleted_wake_locks... Added on May 16, 2012, 8:27 pm QUOTE(AMDunFreak @ May 16 2012, 08:02 PM) One thing I don't like about ics is when I switch programs, from fb to browser, the browser reloads again.. Doesn't happen to me.... but I can suggest to try applying V6 Supercharger to see if it helps. Be warned though, applying it on ICS ROM is not for the faint of heart ^^;;And switch back to fb, for reloads again.. Previously loaded data is gone... And no, Tubemate still don't work with fb in rocket v1 ics.. So sad.. This post has been edited by kurogane: May 16 2012, 08:27 PM |

QUOTE(shchiam1978 @ May 16 2012, 11:03 PM) I still trying to understand the Supercharge V6. Please read the forum thread. It explains pretty much everything the script does. Does this work with Litening ROM V1.0 plus Speedmod K12 Kernel? If you really want the short version: » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « And yes, it should work on Litening ROM v1.0 as it's standalone script that applies tweaks to certain parts of the OS memory management. QUOTE(shchiam1978 @ May 17 2012, 08:58 AM) Hi Supercharger changes how Android OS memory management works by tweaking the minfree levels and modding the application priorities.Thanks. Well i do read it but confidence level is pretty much low plus confused and it is best to get some guidance from someone who have done it especially in LYF. Cheers The main benefits are: 1. Launcher redraw are reduced as it it kept in memory. 2. Apps multitasking is improved. Apps wont get killed so fast. In GB rom, you just need to run the script in terminal. For ICS, you will need to mod system framework file manually. Complete install instructions available on that thread. I also like to recommend reading the explanation of what the script does as it gives a good insight on how Android OS memory management works. |
