Just submitted my application for OCBC card today.

Agent asked for my bank statement as I'm a govt servant so that they can tally with my payslip. Why so stringent? My pay is way above min requirement. I told the agent off I don't feel comfortable giving my bank statement. And best of all they asked for 3 months payslip as compared to 2 months when I applied for my maybank2card.

Actually, MBB2 application requires the same  wink.gif
•Copy of NRIC (both sides) or Passport
•Latest 3 months' salary slips
•Latest 6 months' savings account activity/current account statements

and iirc, SCB too

Ah okay. Maybe because all my banking accounts are with maybank so they didn't require anything from me.

This use of agents escalated a few years back when banks begin to outsource the customer acquisition to 3rd parties to scale down their sales staff. Banks normally impose high sales targets to these agents/agencies and agents go all the way to ensure the public signs up (and you see agents offering "gifts" to attract sign ups) - still the commission can be lucrative thus they do continue to exist despite the competitive market for customers these days.

The agent was "making" sure that the card application will get approved and he/she gets the commission. Not all cc agents are rouges and not all agents will play by the rules as well - I always wonder why many trust agents just for the sake of convenience and risk personal information theft. (or worse). I encourage all readers to take caution when dealing with credit card agents.

I do understand the risks but I simply do not have extra time to go to the bank myself to sign up as my work hours are long and on saturdays the bank is usually closed. Thanks for reminding.

Just got my rejection letter. Took abt a week for them to reject my application. Probably because I dont have any loans with any banks. Gonna give the agent another chance, if it fails again that's it. Rejecting my application because I dont have a loan is riddiculous. Not having a loan doesnt mean I cant settle my monthly bills on time.

Strict huh? Okay, thank you for the heads up.

Btw, if rejected how long gotta wait to reapply?
As a banker (mortgage), I'd say if you do not have any CCRIS history, no one would know how your repayment habit is. Do you have any non-bank loans that you pay? Like PTPTN, etc? You can use that as an appeal you know?

No. My studies were funded by my parents completely.

Bank have their guideline for risk management.
Lack of credit history also consider rick for banks.
Thus, just give a try as this indeed a must have cc by now.

I ady have the maybank2card. This is just to supplement my amex but well I can always go for UOB if I get rejected again.

No news yet from my ccard agent.

Looks like I have to call up OCBC myself regarding the appeal status.
