I've just started Dance of Dragons. It's a fantastic series and a incredible TV series too. But according to reviews Dance of Dragons is supposedly not as good as all the books before it. But we'll see.

Is it good? I have too many series to finish and can't afford to start another epic fantasy.
The way of kings
King killer chronicles
The first law
Wheels of times
And other Pitter patter of little fantasy series

I am enjoying the tv shows now n hate to spoil it by comparing the show to the book.

It's not good. IT'S EPIC. I would say it's the best fantasy book I've ever read (not that I've read many actually). It's like the LOTR of our generation. But don't take my word for it, it's been topping the bestseller lists for awhile now and it's TV adaption has one of the highest budgests for a HBO series. Go and read A Game of Thrones, it's beyond worth making time to read.

I am really happy to see people getting into ASOIAF. I read it ages ago, and I don't have time to reread them. Which I should, as there are so many things I cannot remember. I haven't read Dances of Dragon yet, and already I lost track of a number of people (Brom anyone?) Nothing is sacred in GRRM's world, really gritty stuff. Fantastic as I loved political intrigues.

Honestly, the 'bad guys' have more depth than the 'good guys' at this point. It could be GRRM's intention though. I really wonder how he will wrap up all the threads.

HBO did a fantastic job on translating the series to the silver screen. As there are length dialogues and many parallel storylines, the pacing suffers badly though, through no fault of the production team. Just my 2 sens.

Contemplating buying A Dance With Dragon.Thing is, I read Bk 1 about 10 years ago. I think I need a read through to enjoy (and recall) the stories and characters in detail. But time is a factor! I have a feeling I will just fork out the money the next time I am in a bookstore - lol. I wish the gap wasn't so huge between the books.

Jean.lim - do continue the series! It gets better. I remember literally raising my eyebrows at parts in A Storm of Swords.

I am still contemplating whether to pick this series up or not... hmm.gif It seems to be very thick, very concentrated and very heavy for my likings. Haven't really started reading real, heavy fantasy novel, don't know if you should start with this one.... hmm.gif hmm.gif

Ahaa, I saw some new fans here biggrin.gif

Can't wait for 2013 tho, the next season of their series.

While for the book, I haven't read book 5 yet, I think I will wait til year end of early next year, so I can warm up for the TV series.

Reading Book4 currently... 1/4 into it...
found it a bit hard to swallow after the magnificent Book3
the introduction of many minor characters POV and lack of few major characters also contribute to the factor...

Seems like it's the only book so far I'm forcing myself to finish compared to previous 3 which is always "one more chapter before I close the book".

lets hope the plot gets better soon tongue.gif

Btw... i flipped to the last page and read about GRRM explains the reason behind the lack of major characters, and initially planned to release book5 a year after book4 tongue.gif
and that was in 2004, took him almost 7 years to come out with book5 doh.gif

Will it be another 7 years wait for Book6?
and more for the concluding saga for Book7?
just hope he won't pull a Robert Jordan stunt tongue.gif

Book 1-3 is fantastic and interesting biggrin.gif

Book 4-5 makes me feel a bit sad. Things are happening at such a snail pace, I just skip and get vmad.gif mad.gif vmad.gif ... it's like a different author continued the story...

Read that George RR Martin actually planned to skip 5 years ahead after book 3. He really should have done so, I felt really upset with Book 4 &5. So much filler... I keep asking myself, where is the meat, when is something interesting going to happen.

I have no idea how the producers of the TV series on HBO will handle Book 4 & 5. It's going to be very hard to translate Book 4 & 5 into a TV series... Probably they'll streamline the mess in the books.

Heard that book 6 will come somewhere 3 years later from now. GRRM is kinda busy involved in the series as well.

I've read all 5 and completely disagree with those who say a Dance with Dragons is not as good as previous books. I believe the people who say this are fans of specific characters who don't show up much in book 5 because its timeline is parallel with that of the characters in book 4.

People should see book 4 and 5 as two parts of the same book. They are indeed very good books which involves less fighting and more politics than previous books.

PS: v0ltage, I'm supposed to pass book 5 to you.
