
Hi guys! The purpose of this thread is to concentrate on Shelter Home as a non-profit organisation and hope that there are people who are willing to give them a hand.
Organisation Background:
Shelter Home is a welfare and non-profit organization that was founded in 1981. They currently running as registered welfare organisation which aims to help and provide shelter for children who are being abandoned, abused at risk and also children from the drug field community They are not orphans. Currently there are three shelters which are known as Shelter 1, Shelter 2 and Shelter 3 which located at Petaling Jaya, Kuala Lumpur and Section 8, Petaling Jaya respectively. Each child is placed according to the respective Shelter Home based on their age and their current conditions. Besides that, Shelter Home has expended further on their organization where they focus not only on the children but also other parties. In 1989, Shelter Home set up 10 kindergartens in squatter settlements. In addition to that, Shelter Home also undertake into community youth work among prisoners in Kajang Prison. Shelter Home has expanded vastly over the years with the establishment of homes, programs and services.
Mission and Goals:
- To rescue and protect children from the trauma of physical and sexual abuse, extreme neglect, being abandoned and being a victim or witness of domestic violence.
- To help the children overcome their initial trauma and restore self-acceptance, dignity and their trust in humanity by giving them unconditional love, care, and an education.
- To unite the children with their families where possible.
- To reinforce the above by regular follow-up so that they can become useful citizens.
Location of Homes:
Shelter 1
For children from 4-12years and located in Petaling Jaya
Shelter 2
For teenage girls from 13-18 years located in Kuala Lumpur
Shelter 3
For teenage boys between the ages of 13 and 18 located in Section 8, Petaling Jaya
Challenges that they are facing:
1- Insufficient funds to provide better education for their children
2- Insufficient volunteers to help them in those homes
