Hey guys,

I would just like to open a small discussion between these 2 similar games of DotA / Dota 2 & Heroes of Newerth (HoN). Please do not get me wrong as I am not trying to cause a war or flame each game.

I am currently a HoN player but as all of us did, I started from humble beginnings with the game of DotA. At that time, it seemed like the best game in the world and I was having an extraordinarily fun time playing the game, Nothing could beat it. But as time went on, I found out about HoN and decided to try it as it was portrayed as the "enhanced" version of DotA. I know a lot of DotA players hate HoN because they feel like it is a "copycat" game so to say and I do not disagree with that.

At this point in time, the DotA player base still greatly out numbers any other MOBA game in the industry. My question and the discussion I would like to have is why?

With Dota 2 coming out, I have also received a lot of negative feedback from DotA players about their reluctance to move on to Dota 2 as well. Why is this so? What is stopping you from trying a new game such as HoN or even to move on to Dota 2. Is it because of the unfamiliarity that the game brings or is it just because you do not like the game.

I would greatly appreciate it if I could receive some feedback from you guys about the following :

1. Would you try Heroes of Newerth or Dota 2?
2. What are some of the reasons that would make you reluctant to transition into a similar yet totally different game?
3. What could entice you or encourage you to try HoN or Dota 2? (Example, more events? noob friendly environment? etc...)

I thank all of you for participating in this small discussion as I am just trying to gather some feedback from you guys =D

Thanks!

Is that true dota fanboy dislike hon? I was an amateur dotaplayer past few years that eventually switch to hon, a recommendation from a friend of mine. And it's even more exciting than dota imo in terms of graphics (when going on heroes war) and lots of heroes variations (about 100+ by now). I'm getting addicted once in awhile. It's true hon does copy idea's of dota, but they innovate that idea very well IMO. No offense, dotagamer.

to be honest its peer pressure

when u surrounded by people that play either one of the game, u will become attracted to that one.

if lots of friend play hon, u play hon

if lots of friend play dota2, u play dota2

some people dont like to change their routines.

played a lot of dota back in those days, flying spaghetti monster, CC, and g@.re.na.
sometimes i play alone, sometimes with friends. both are enjoyable for me.
and then one day my friend introduce me to HoN. here's the few key feature that got my attention:-
1) The ability to reconnect after disconnect
2) Records stats, including leaver stats
3) Nicer graphics
4) No map hack as it's server based
5) Able to bind keys
and the fact that it's based on Dota, so there's very minimal learning curve/getting used to.
tried HoN during it's int.beta phase, die....hooked to it terus although during team fight i dunno what's happening because it's too colourful XD
been actively playing HoN for 3 years now i guess.

manage to try Dota 2 also early this year. graphic wise, i prefer HoN's as it's more bright and rich in colours and also the battlefield viewable space is bigger compared to Dota 2.
the thing i like about Dota 2 is that the server is better.
it's by Valve.
sooner or later the players will flock over to Dota 2.

but i'm still playing HoN because all my friends are there and not all of us got the beta key for Dota 2.

so to answer your questions:-
1) i've already tried Dota 2 and currently playing HoN actively
2) friends
3) i would like Dota 2 better if the viewable space is bigger. as of now, it makes me feel a bit claustrophobic. also i would play Dota 2 if all my friends are playing there and HoN server is down lol.

at first i hate hon too coz i can't handle the game well and not habit to the game interface

but lately this 2-3 month , i started join hon , and after month of playing , hon ? is really best ! especially the mid war , i like the mid war very well , when i go back to dota 1 , feel like really creepy

i like dota 2 the most , but i'm still playing hon , why ?
1)still under development ( i mean not a perfect complete game yet )
2)need a mid-high end graphic card , currently using laptop with intel hd 3000 & nvidia gt630 , the game graphic setting is set to all low but still little lagging , so i turn back playing hon
3)i dislike the mystery box , need buy key in order to open the box , i know nobody force me to buy it , but ... anyway i hate it , i hate the box !!!
