Hi guys. I'm thinking of getting the ICD2 LE, programmer with in-circuit debugger capability. Microchip is having a 60% discount. The price after discount is about RM200+ including delivery. The usual price is RM400+.

Anyone interested to get one so that we could share the delivery cost?

Dear all Electronics Enthusiasts rclxms.gif
I m not qualified for this category coz I m total blurr in electronics....but i need advice from you expert out there and I hope you can help me thumbup.gif

I m thinking of getting an electrical appliance from US which states 110v.
In order for me to use in Msia with 220v, I need to get a transformer rite?
My questions :-

1. If i use this item with transformer for long term, will it affect the performance? In other word, will the item (the appliance) become not long lasting?
2. What kind of transformer to get if the item is 575 watt? Is there a difference voltage of transformer to get?
3. Any particular brand that you experts out there can recommend?
4. PPl tell me that with higher wattage, the transformer has to be 'stronger' and higher risk of the electrical appliance get 'burnt'. Is it true?

All and all, can you advise me whether is advisable to get the item from US with 110v? (price is a factor as it is 3 or close to 4 times cheaper ;-)

thanks so much and appreciate your advise soon....thanks!

3. Any particular brand that you experts out there can recommend?(Depends on spec and $$$)
4. PPl tell me that with higher wattage, the transformer has to be 'stronger' and higher risk of the electrical appliance get 'burnt'. Is it true?(Yes, under-rated transformer will burnt - don't risk your house)

Refer to my comment in bold. And take note these.

1) Mains voltage and 2) Mains frequency.

What is the recommended operating voltage and the tolerance (e.g. 110V +/-10% 50Hz) as indicated in the user manual or printed on appliance? If you can provide more details (specs and what appliance) then we may provide more accurate assistance to you.

Hi Rad200, I don't hv the full specs but it's running (correct phrase?) at 110v and 575 watt. It's a electrical mixer. Can you provide me some of the brands for transformer? As I have no idea where and what to look out for and also to purchase... rclxub.gif

I am assuming you refer to electrical food mixer. If it uses AC induction motor then you need to know this. In M'sia the main frequency is 50Hz, US uses 60Hz. Some AC induction motors are sensitive to that. When you use it here the motor may turn slower or may even oscillate and overheat (worst case). I suggest you check with the supplier to get their opinion too.

If you are in Penang you may go to shops like Thye Huat as I hv seen them carrying 1 or 2 brands. EKK brand can be commonly found (since it is made locally).

Hiya,
I've been looking for a community of electronics/robotics enthusiasts in Malaysia for quite some time (other then the ones in the IPTs). Does anyone out there know where, if it exists, can I find these communities. Or is this as close it gets hmm.gif ?
I've been looking forward to continue on building electronic gadgets and robots. Previously, I get do it in the uni. Now, no more sad.gif . It's just no fun if u'r building something on u'r own. Cannot discuss or compare or compete. Really want to find a community that would like to build these things together or compete with each other or go and participate other competitions outside....

Anyone???

channan,

what IC do you wanna program ?

talk to fritzlist. he should be able to direct you.

hanskoh,

what kind of electronics are you interested in ? There are many types of hobbyists out there. Some play only audio, some are into robotics, some are into gadgets.

Try to see what kind of electronics make you tick. That should get you started in the right direction.

And remember, don't be afraid to ASK ! As long as you try, there will be people willing to help you out. It also helps if you use google for a bit first smile.gif

Hi guys. Not much thread count since the last time I visited. Out of blue, it appears on first page of hobbies forum laugh.gif

I am an electronic enthusiast here, a humble hobbyist though tongue.gif Don't know much about electronics actually, my background is mechanical. Did a robotic project back in my final year, and screw up the electronics part. tongue.gif

My main interest is in microcontroller and robotic. Currently relearning the microchip PIC programming (not at atmel fan here). Just started recently. Got a few lame LED running doh.gif . Now working on RGB LED, typical control like fading, etc. and LCD control.

Nothing much in mind. Probably will try to do a simple calculator via the LCD, then move on the GLCD for graph plotting thumbup.gif

Once got a hand on those then will only try get back into robotics.

It's quite difficult to obtain items like this in Malaysia. If you want exactly like that, you'll have a hard time. Try looking at Nixie. The outlet is located just in front of Pudu Plaza. The Jalan Landak wan. But still, the robotic kits they have are from cytron oso.

I have a schematic diagram here.. i was wondering if some of the experienced guys over here could help me verify if this circuit would work if i were to build it. Its a rather simple circuit, here is the part list for the circuit and also the diagram... hope someone could give me some comments... thanks alot

C1 10nF ceramic disc capacitor

C2 100nF ceramic disc capacitor

C3 1000uF electrolytic capacitor

D1 1N4148 signal diode

D2 LED

Q1 BC327 TO-92 transistor

R1 10K 0.25W variable resistor

R2 1K 0.25W variable resistor

R3, R4 470R 0.5W resistor

U1 TL072 Op-amp

This circuit basically consists of P1 and P2 which are measurement rods driven into soil.. and a voltage will be indicated at the voltmeter attached at P3 and P4, potentiometer R1 is to adjust the range of the voltage so that it will be between the 15 v voltmeter. The op amp basically compares the value.. R2 is adjusted till the motor starts ( motor outputs are P6 and P5) the transistor amplifies the current to the motor, while the diode avoids the circuit from getting burnt from the motors inductance while the capacitors help smoother the circuits output

Its a soil resistance sensor... P1 and P2 are the sensing rods
