Nice infos. Thanks dude. thumbup.gif
Something to add.

On the eye contact thingy, make eye contacts not stares. It is also important to switch between the interviewers (>1 interviewers) so that none will feel offended. When making eye contact, try to focus on one eye, switching between eyes of that same person gives a nervous impression.

On the hand shaking part, gives firm and powerful grip. However on some occasions, initiating a hand shake with a future employer might be bad by giving an aggressive impression.
*
By the way, another good way of making eye contact is to look at the interviewers nose. If you are the scared type, it is good to try it during an interview

I'm not sure about the cover letter part as I never really got any replies from handing in CV in job fair ... (And from my experience, non of them asked me for a cover letter) ...

Personally, I believe cover letter should be more specific and directed to a specific company instead of a general one ...

About the results I was saying, you're in your final year right now, am I right? You can always keep a few copies of your previous year results in case someone asked for it ...
*
there are many books out there that teach you how to write a good cover letter. the best thing for you is to have at least 6 to 7 books and just copy and paste the sentences in the examples that suits you. remember, it is the personality that counts, so don't worry about copying other people's words to express yourself

Nowdaays is it a good idea to cross out the copies? If so, how should one do it without "spoiling" the copy?
*
just cross at the top right corner. write "for application only" across it. actually, it should be done for any type of application. credit card, bonus link etc. not good to let people take copy of your mycard

hey guyz,

I have a question regarding bout jobstreet. Do you guyz authenticate urself by sendindg them your photocopy IC?

the company I applied didnt view my cv at all since the last job I submitted in Jan...

y ar??
*
yes, you need to authenticate your resume with Jobstreet first. if not, it would not be made available for the employers to view. as for the resume you submitted, usually there are more than 300 applications for a single job. it would take an effort to view them all. what you can do now is just wait. somethings, after 3 months, the position is still vacant and they will view your resume by then.

Yes! I got the job. Thank you hans.excel, one.good.guy and Mavik. I did ask about the long term, short term goals, the direction of the company, how actually the company makes money from and more. It made me have a clearer understanding on the company. It lasted 1 hour, longer than my 1st interview. Finally I got it!

congratulations!

QUOTE(Tenchu @ Sep 18 2006, 10:55 AM)
It is known that it is our disadvantages if we state our expected salary.

However, the interviewers these days, are also smart enough to "throw the ball" back to us. Infact they are insisting you to tell them ur expected salary.

How to avoid been giving out my expected salary in such case?
*
i guess you should try to refrain from talking about the salary until you have entirely presented what you know and what you can do for the employer first. After that, you could always state your salary in a range format. for example, if you are really want RM2,000 , you could ranged it like this Rm1,950 to Rm2,200. But if you want a minimum of Rm2,000 , then you can try a range of rm2,000 to rm 2,300. a compant will usually have a standard salary scale, so you will have to start somewhere in the scale. and where you start depends on you abilities and the output that the employer perceived that they can get from you.

anyhow, remember when you want to buy a product like a tv, you would want to know about the features first right? and you are willing to pay for the features if you want them. it is the same case with negotiating salary, the more knowledge and skills you have, the employer will definately willing to pay a bit more for your services.

dude, these questions are so general. You must at least know which industry or career to you are focusing in order to match the questions with suitable answers.

during the interview when the person ask
"y u want to do something different fro what u have studied?" or sumting like that..what should be the appropriate asnwer??

besides want to gain knowledge..what else...
*
You must first get to know your Strength and Weakness. The thing with working life is that we only use a bit of knowledge from our studies. Most of the skills that are used are like communication, analytical and other skills that is not coming from any text books. Therefore, you should sit down and write down your non-technical skills and other professional values and think how to relate them to what you are going to do for the company once you are hired.

- employee benefits
- annual leave
- salary
- probation period
- working hours and working days
- job scope
- bonus
- medical benefits
- insurance
- dental benefits
- % of EPF contribution from the company

should bring this list in the pocket. Interviewers will usually be impressed with these preparations. thumbup.gif
