Hi, not knowing where to post my question but i think this thread should be the most suitable one.

Let's say, your current pay is RM4K, you're expecting to change a new job and wish to get RM6k. Now you are attending an interview, during the interview, the employer asks you what's your latest pay, would you tell him RM4K? Or you will tell him RM7k as let him deduct RM1k to be RM6k, which is your expected salary.

Kindly share your opinions.
*
2 things likely to happen if u tell them ur current sal is 7K:

1) they nego wif u and u get 6K.

2) they ask u to proof ur salary is 7k.

I leave it to u to think about which is more likely to happen.

But i thought salary slip is P&C, non-employer has no rights to view it?
*
Yes, it is P&C for you, and your right to let them know or not.

Many HR will require ur previose payslip to verify ur claims of what you currently earn.

Of course, there are exceptions, especially for high end job where it go by ur track record.

What i try to say is, if they ask and u duwan to show, might affect ur chances.

Added on April 24, 2009, 10:04 amof course the hiring manager is no fool also.
esp if ur ex company is MNC an ur level is executive, i will be somewhat skeptical if u tell me u earns 8K. cos many company have salary banding.

Mistakes Made During the Interview:
1. This happened during my interview with a semiconductor company based outside of KL. They asked if I applied to other companies based in KL and they asked if I were offered a job in KL would I take it. Being my first interview and being naive and honest, I said yes. Thanks to that I didn't get the job.

so i should answer no if they ask if i were applying for other company?
*
I doubt that was the reason u dint get job.

Watever u do, when u are at an interview, act as though this is the only job left in the world.

when u get offer letter baru decide tongue.gif

im speechless when  the interviewer ask me...

what you foresee yourself in 5 years time if you stay in this job ? sweat.gif

"i would be working on achieving all objectives assigned to me by the business, and continue to innovate and contribute to provide more value to the company"

textbook question deserves textbook answer.

Hey guys i have a question.

What is the procedure of confirmation of you as an employee?
I am puzzled because yesterday i went for an interview and the manager said that he wanna hire me. He asked me to report to work next 2 weeks but i havent sign or receive offer letter. What should i do now?
*
if u r currently employed, wat is ur notice period?

in any case, no confirmation letter no deal (for me). i cant risk losing my current job for one that is not confirm.

in fact some (less common) cases the company can retract their offer letter (bad luck!)

then sure he knows im copying from textbook doh.gif what if i cant achieve, you i deserve termination from them?? im afraid i've been throw out this question by them  sweat.gif
*
we ask that crap all the time, its just part of our script/procedure.

u are missing the point, u are telling them "i wish to continue to be able to be of value to u in 5 yrs time"

if they ask u back "what if u cannot achieve, we terminate u?"
then u should answer them in a way u see fit, but not arrogant or rude.

"i am confident that i can achieve them. in the event of no achievement, i shall consult the management on how to remedy the situation"

joey is rite. if cannot achieve, do contingency. not resign/terminate. pariah question from interviewer during interview goes to show wat type of company they are, havent hire u alredi wanna fire u.

I want to ask...the operation manager is gonna call me this Monday morning for an interview...is it OK for me to ask him whether my chances to get tat job is high??? icon_question.gif
*
most interviewer wont answer that question directly if they have few candidates. most they will say is "we will call u if u r shortlisted". seldom ppl will say "u got d job", mostly also "i will make strong recommendation"

personelly i prefer not to ask.

I'm sort of desperate d. The manager called & had phone interview for me, so i asked him whether my chances are high or not, he said it's a 50-50 chance.. sad.gif Sigh..have to wait for him to contact me again for a face2face interview.
*
u totally not in the running also they will say 50-50.

no need to ask this Q one, consider like buy 4D. strike or not, the result show only u will know.
