Man Utd close on Kagawa deal
May 29, 2012
Manchester United are closing in on the €15 million signing of Japan midfielder Shinji Kagawa, according to reports in Germany.
Kagawa, 23, has been linked with United for some time and it appears the deal may be close to coming to fruition, with Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc stating "some details are still to be confirmed".
Kicker suggests that the two sides are close to agreeing an initial €15 million fee, potentially rising to €22 million with add-ons.
Kagawa recently confirmed that he has met with Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson over a move and, amid talk of other suitors, it appears that United are leading the chase for the playmaker.
Formerly of Cerezo Osaka, Kagawa moved to Dortmund in 2010 and helped inspire the Westfalenstadion side to Bundesliga titles in both seasons at the club, as well as the 2011-12 DFB Pokal trophy.

MANCHESTER UNITED are poised to make a £3m bid for Crewe teenager Nick Powell.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been keeping close tabs on the attacking midfielder all season and is confident of luring him to Old Trafford.
Fergie’s chief scout and brother Martin Ferguson watched Powell (right) score a Wembley wonder goal on Sunday to help fire Crewe to promotion to League One.
And Powell, 18, was the star of the show to boost his chances of a dream move to United. Several other clubs have been monitoring the midfielder, including Chelsea, Newcastle, Everton and Fulham.
But Fergie is set to make the first move and is expected to land Powell within the next week.
Powell, who has scored 16 goals this season, will agree a four-year deal worth around £20,000 a week.

Chelsea’s rebuilding grows with £78m Eden Hazard signing
Chelsea have beaten off competition from Manchester City — who had been clear favourites to sign the exciting Belgium international but grew frustrated at the negotiations — Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur after becoming the only club who would go close to meeting the forward’s demands.
City are thought to have walked away from the deal last week with Spurs giving up some time ago. Hazard, currently on international duty and preparing to face England in a friendly this weekend, indicated to Chelsea on Saturday that he was set to accept their offer and yesterday took to the social media site Twitter to announce that he had “made up my mind”, adding last night: “I’m signing for the Champions League winner.”
Chelsea will pay a fee of around €40 million (£35.3 million) to Lille, with Hazard having demanded wages of £4.6 million a year net of tax, so around £9 million a year for his new employer. That averages out at £170,000 a week.
In addition his agent, John Bico, who has conducted an aggressive auction has made it clear that he wants a fee of £6 million.
If all the demands are met and with Hazard expected to agree a five-year deal, it means the overall cost of the signing, fees and contract will amount to around £78 million which, even by Chelsea standards, is a substantial investment.
