there are a lot of ways to trigger the camera.. this gesture is only one of the ways, NOT THE ONLY WAY..

the lock screen has a shortcut too, besides u can also activate it with voice like "I want to take a picture" or "Open camera"

last but not least, app shortcut at the home screen as well.
