Hi

Am stuck deciding between these 3 LED LCD TV's with largely similar specs.

All are Full HD 1080 (1920 x 1080)

Sony 40EX520 - just superceded model which can be purchased at around RM 2,000, Wi Fi ready but need to purchase dongle which puts the cost up to RM 2,200, no indication of Hz

Samsung 40ES5600 - current model available for RM 2,400, Wi Fi ready (some people throwing in a dongle but otherwise need to purchase for RM 200), Clear Motion Rate of 100 Hz

Samsung 40ES6220 - current model available for about RM 2,900, built in Wireless LAN, 3D, Clear Motion Rate of 400 Hz

I can pretty much do without the 3D and so the attraction of the Samsung 40ES6220 is mostly for the higher Clear Motion Rate of 400 Hz - is that noticeable (and worth the extra RM500)?

Is the Sony less well spec'd picture quality wise being a just replaced model? The attraction is the nicer industrial design and it being the cheapest.

Having said that, the Samsung's are probably a more watchable design as the bezel is integrated with the screen edge giving a floating impression.

Any opinions welcome.

Thanks

I'm using 40EX520. The dongle is a MUST HAVE item !! no complain so far !! Been using this since 4 months ago and satisfy with everything.

If u're using smart phones like iphone or android based phone, u can download free apps to use as remote control and/or keyboard(for typing when using the SMART functions. hehe..BRAVIA Sync is a wonderful feature if u connect all your Sony products with it.

while samsung may have a more attractive design, my vote goes to sony hands down.

Sony EX520:
+matte screen
+excellent picture quality
+value for money
-only 50Hz
-slight red color shifts

Samsung Series 5 (E gen):
+design
+features (Hub etc)
+3D features
-Glossy screen
-wobbly quality control

i've total lost in confidence with the QC of samsung TVs with what i've seen with my own eyes. Furthermore, the CMR 400 that you mentioned, its bullshit. that's not 400Hz motion, its a marketing gimmick.

My advise: unless 3D is absolutely necessary, otherwise go for Sony.

very satisfied 40ex520 owner here.
guaranteed compatibility with bravia sync for ps3. just press ps button on the dual shock 3 and voila.. the sound system and tv turns on with the ps3 input selected. no input lag.
matte screen reduce reflection, standard (non-astro) channel still looks good.
i played some blu-rays and HD sports videos and no noticeable judder or skip frames, maybe its just me though.

others can only give u their opinions, at the end of the day u should see tvs capability and trust ur own eyes.

i played a 720p footie vid expecting some judder, but i didn't notice any. same with blu-ray during rolling credits scenes. sure it couldn't beat smoothness of higher end models but for a 'low' Hz, its very nice.

Added on May 6, 2012, 7:53 pmHonestly have you try watch astro (not beyond)? What different with old tv (CRT) with sony 40ex520. Normally i will watch astro more than watch movie at media player.

If u ask me about their low quality...i will say it is not!! Since i have 3 Samsung at the moment...32" LCD for my small office, 50"plasma C6500 for my bedroom and 55" LED C8000 for my TV room. All never give me any problem.

i think its called media remote or something.

i don't have astro beyond, just standard astro. on lcd u can watch the full widescreen of certain footie matches. on old crt they cut the sides to 4:3 so some scoreline bars and logos are not visible.

but in video, u are only as good as ur source. if got full hd video u can really see the tv capability

NX series is much same as EX720, both hv 200 hz motion rate, but NX screen more glare shadow due to its glass screen and nice design.

EX720 more matted screen, so less glare shadow and more cheaper than NX, so i choose EX720 (already sent to my house this afternoon).

HX is top series, has 800 hz if im not forget and new x-reality pro engine. i never think abt it due to very expensive.

EX653 = I have not see it yet

EX520 = only has 50 or 100 hz (im not sure), no 3D, overall quite same like EX720, just add few hundred can get EX720, depend you need the 3d feature or not. They free 3D glasses, if u minus the glasses price, it almost same price with EX520, why not take the EX720.

sony screen color is quote nice compare to korea brand in same level & price.

in my opinion, panasonic ISP panel LED is most nice and smoothest color, this yr they have launched 3D LED model ET50k, but also at high price due to new model.

if u choose new model 46" 3D LED, it is most range to +- RM5k

my next target will try pana neo plasma, actually this new tech neo plasma almost same like LED screen, u will get wow when u see it. It is subject to yr preference as plasma & LED both are different tech. That why i will try both.

why u not try contact 2 famous sellers in this forum, their price are quite compatible

acutally EX720/EX520 is last yr model, sony is now clearing this model with lower price. if u need new incoming 2012 model, price would be around 5k if i'm correct because a lot new model of several brand of 46" 3D LED is abt this price.

what yr friend gv u for the 46" EX520? below rm3k?

40" is abt 1.8-1.9k
so 46" for 3k price also nice d.

40" vs 46" price different almost above 1k++

if yr sofa 8ft distance to the TV, choose 46" is perfect but not 40" as u will feel it small.

thanks, i will use LAN cable for time being.

wow, basically sony centre put the price quite higher compare to other dealers, try ask other smaller electric shop around yr side.

my set bought at last week, rm3.7k with free 3 classes + 1 headphone.

which BD player? i think the price wont more than rm1k..

i'm now using PS3, game + DVD/BD movies + 3d movies all in one

the bravia sync feature is quite nice and convenience for it.

owh, what do u mean other dealers? did u mean dealers here in lowyat forum or those smaller shops u can find at ss2 pj for example? one thing i know those smaller shops usually can give better deals but will take ca$h over credit card. moreover, they will charge interest for instalments unlike via credit card on bigger outlets i mentioned above.... hmm.gif but i could be wrong?

Yes i mean smaller shop.

I don't know about their credit card charges sinces i never ever been charge for it if using credit card!
For installment case i think around 2 or 3% extra charges.

for small shop, mostly they will charge extra rm100 something if for c.card with 0% installment even though a lot banks offer 0% interest.

i dont know the reason why the shop charges extra, maybe banks charge them service charges...

it is like screen saver in PC.
u can set 5min/10min/15min ~ 30min
let say u set 5min, it will turn off the screen once u away from the tv after 5min, but the sound still on.
once you come in front of tv, it will lit on the screen.

after 30min if u not back in front tv, it will shut off to standby mode.

aiya, simple la, i done it not more than 15 mins job.
1) measure TV height to suit u
2) follow the intruction, drill 3 holes (make sure dont drill any wire cables inside the wall)
3) follow the intruction how to mount the tv

ikea wall mount only can up to 50" max 60kg, so not worry for yr 46" LED which it is not over than 20kg,

cheap and wortly

compare ex653 & ex520 motion Hz. 653 have 100hz then 520 no hz at all. If you didn't see any sport then no need care about motion hz. I seldom see sports one but what i think in future don't know will or not so i will choose 653 or 720. Depend your budget also. smile.gif

compare ex653 & ex520 motion Hz. 653 have 100hz then 520 no hz at all. If you didn't see any sport then no need care about motion hz. I seldom see sports one but what i think in future don't know will or not so i will choose 653 or 720. Depend your budget also.  smile.gif

ex520 has 50 hz, they may hv min 50 hz if not specify in the spec, it can not be 0 hz.

if 3k++ for last yrs model is quite resonable already until they clear the stock.

as u know all new 2012 3d LED model target around 5k++, sony, pana, sharp...

even coming euro/olympic promo also not much reduce the price as they are just new coming model, but will defenitely free some gift, but dont expect much value gift.

manufacters will not stupid to put down the price to 3k++, and then after end promo put them back to 5k++

promo is just marketing stradegy to boot the short period of sale/name only.

if u need the 2012 model with lower price, u may have to wait that time 2013 model come out.

this is electric item, u can not get the perfect/highest tech one, every yrs changing, man..

Any season I also won't take new 2012 model. What I means if wait coming Euro or Olympic season then get 46ex720. I am sure they won't give any discount for new 2012 model.

QUOTE(papaya2 @ May 7 2012, 11:28 PM)
thanks, i will use LAN cable for time being.

wow, basically sony centre put the price quite higher compare to other dealers, try ask other smaller electric shop around yr side.

my set bought at last week, rm3.7k with free 3 classes + 1 headphone.

which BD player? i think the price wont more than rm1k..

i'm now using PS3, game + DVD/BD movies + 3d movies all in one

the bravia sync feature is quite nice and convenience for it.

if yr modem & LAN far away from yr TV, better take the wifi dongle i/o headset.
my unifi modem is located in the tv cabinet, so can use LAN cable though behind, so i take the headset, that is DENON headset, not the cheapo one, price among rm160-180.

i just now go sony center & looking the new model HX750, this one i think replace EX720, quite nice got 400hz & more bright screen compared to EX720, but listed price rm5999 free 2 glasses. Outside shop maybe around 5k++

if u need save more than 1k better take the EX720. more worth it than it.

Samsung are really LED TV then Sony just LCD LED only. Between you need check weather samsung have motion hz or not. If you buy for playing games & movie I think Motion Hz are important to you because motion hz for moving section smooth. As i know Sony 40ex520 just have 50 motion hz. You better go electrical shop look side by side which one better. Trust your eye. biggrin.gif

bro, u misunderstanding LED LCD vs really LED.

all LED TV are same like LCD but they just use LED to brighter the panel only.

samsung also use edge LED same like sony, means put LED around the in the edge panel.

if FULL LED means LED in around the whole panel, but price will expensive and more thickness.

there have many new tech how they laying the LED, some use OLED (next step of LED), sony's new crystal clear LED & etc....

try google it, u will learn a lot abt current LED TV.

Depend your budget. If you buy Plasma can get min 400hz below rm3 if not mistake. If LED a bit expensive for higher motion.

I like Sony is because the smartphone can be remote control and easy to surf internet by using the smartphone to key in.

Thanks

@rekamaju, if the tv support Intel Widi (wireless display), you can connect to TV via that. Else, if you just want to share contents (video, photos, music), can use dlna or plex over wifi.
