but what the hell.

driving would be 900km highway - some 100km 'kampung road.

i want a car that is:
- comfort - main criteria
- cheap maintenance
- i don't want to hear any road noise, engine noise, etc
- i don't want to feel any bump on the road

Toyota Camry/ Nissan Teana
u can read full review at http://paultan.org/2011/03/15/the-japanese...s-toyota-camry/

QUOTE
The Toyota Camry’s suspension is completely comfort biased. You can actually just run over bumps like you were driving an SUV and the Camry seems to smoothen out all the bumps and knocks that our Malaysian roads can give it. It also felt the most quiet, although the Teana was very close behind.

camry or teana. camry's seat alil too stiff for me though. accord more suitable if you are in a 'younger' age. no experience on teana, but reviews are good. doesn't look boring too imo.

Since Toyota so greedy, I choose Teana than camry

Teana use CVT transmission so its smooth compare to Camry 4AT
Both car maintenance not cheap, but teana is more expensive than camry

Nissan Sylphy really has great comfort, took a taxi from the airport and the driver was using a Sylphy, it was really comfortable even when he was cruising at about 140km/h, hardly felt the the speed too. smile.gif

Sylphy cuz it's brand new. pretty good room inside, though not so pretty outside. CVT good for cruising 140 km/hr should be good, unless u expect yourself to do 160km/hr most of the time.

erm....for long distance driving...better get higher CC car...1.6L and above is better
if u want cheap maintainance...well, i can only recommend u local car which is preve and inspira...other are not so good in long distance
in terms of road noise, engine noise and bump....preve and inspira is ok too since both of those car uses CVT(which mean lower RPM during high speed) and both are using multilink(which mean its better in absorbing bump on the road)
there are other options like other members stated above which share same thing like preve and inspira BUT maintainance will be more expensive because of premium brand
but more importantly...get something with higher CC

teana, camry. this is why camry selling more than 5k units per year, teana sell more than 3k units per year. as most of the ppl prefer comfort ride.

If you prefer classic and simple but quality built I recommend Nissan Sylphy.
Kinda like the dashboard layout so simple yet elegant smile.gif

But of course for youngsters like me I wouldn't buy that if I got that budget tongue.gif

the SUV u stated also ok...its abt the same as the sedan u stated as well
road noise, bumps also the same
engine CC also high..in fact higher like 2.5L but those aren't using CVT so noise cannot beat sedan that uses CVT
1 thing abt SUV though...maintainance ain't cheap..stay with sedan
if u want SUV, can try santa fe(maybe)

Sat before Hyundai Santa Fex (brother model of tucson)
One thing in common.
It is very tall.
Hence unstable.

Comfort wise.
The hyundai's car is quite comfortable.
But petrol wise. ............... You will die doh.gif
When I enter the Hyundai vehicle, fuel estimation 274km, then travel like 10 min suddenly the meter 250km doh.gif
So inaccurate .
Maintenance ain't cheap since it is Korean car?
But if you can afford it no problem. smile.gif

You want comfort go for D-segment cars.

If you can afford to buy RM 130k cars, maintenance should not be an issue.

hi, you looking for a car driving with long distance, the SUV not suitable for you.
my opinion you should go for sedan car which is more comfort, stable & good fc nod.gif
the car also must big coz at highway will more stable

Camry out of your budget but you can consider Altis dual VVTI the car silent & safe fuel
Sylphy the look is not so good but is good to drive
Accord can consider it have sporty looking
Inspira can consider better you have to test drive first

for maintenance toyota & honda is about the same nissan i'm not sure
proton nowdays service also not cheap biggrin.gif
but with my exp toyota & honda service is very good thumbup.gif
compare to other icon_rolleyes.gif "my experience"

if you need further info can pm me i can give you good deal drool.gif
for nissan, toyota or honda.

thanks...

I would suggest you get the Kia Optima K5. That is really value for money at RM143,888. The specs on the car is really top class and believe me the handling is equally good. Very good sound insulation and good long distance comfort. The only sound is probably coming from the noisy stock Nexen tyres. Its rear gas shock absorbers go a long way towards making long distance drives really comfortable despite its larger 18 inch tyres. But if ure evaluating solely comfort then the Teana and Sylphy will score higher but for an overall package i think the Optima is a good bet.

Safety wise, the Optima scores high with its wide range of safety specs. Its also the first Korean car with a 5 Star American National Highway Transport Safety Association (NHTSA) rating. It scored 5 stars in all frontal, side and rollover impact ratings. Even the new BMW 5 series & upcoming Toyota Camry only got 4 stars for frontal impact.

Yes resale value will not be as good compared to Jap cars but then again there isnt a 100% perfect car is there? Imho, i think specs, ride comfort, handling and safety should be your main priorities. Go have a few test drives and see for yerself. Ull be impressed for sure. Take this coming from a die hard Toyota fan for the past 9 years.

Its accurate. When your driving style changes or your optimum speed is passed, obviously the distance to empty reading will change. Drive at a constant 110kmph and ull see that the meter is quite accurate. Not sure about Hyundai but thats the case with the Optima. For my first full tank (70-75L), ive covered 650km with 420km on highway at 140-150kmph while the rest in typical KL traffic. Still got 2 bars to go before empty. So i figure it should easily last till 700km. Not bad for a car thats heavier than a Camry.

i dn't think its a good car on this occasion
performance = yes
handling = yes
cheap maintainance = no
comfort = no (its a performance car, in order to get good handling, the spring would be hard, thus comfort is gone)
noise = i dn't think so either since its a performance car

I took a E class taxi (rather new car). Comfort was ok, but not exactly great. Vastly inferior to the Citroen XM.

For me the answer is easy too: Citroen C5 or C6. The French president drives a C6. If it's good enough for him...

Of course for that price you'll have to search for a second hand C5. 2010 one is listed at 150k, 2002-2003 one is at around 25k. Of course maintenance may not be that cheap (shouldn't be too bad), but you save 100k over the other choices, so you can buy 5 C5 and will always have one that works/have enough spare parts. wink.gif

Anyway Citroens are well known for their magic carpet ride. Even Rolls Royce once licensed the tech from Citroen (IIRC they stopped since BMW bought RR and it would have been rather embarrassing). So yes, if comfort is what you are after, then there is no other choice. The XM made no road (was driving over a parking lot that was very bumpy) feel comfortable.

Ah, have a look at this. http://www.mudah.my/Citroen+C5+2+0+A-14370779.htm The car is not so old, still way below your budget. Or http://www.mudah.my/Citroen+C5+2+0+Auto+Lo...01-11221627.htm

Camry will be a good choice, but get the latest model

Road noise dependent on tires used

Ive heard about the good ride comfort of citroens. But good luck convincing anyone to buy one.

Hyundai offers 5 years warranty or 300,000km while Kia offers 5 years unlimited mileage warranty.

So in what way is Hyundai warranty better than Kia? I would say that both are virtually the same as nobody would drive more than 300,000km in 5 years unless he drives more than 165km a day.

Mind explaining to me why the new Camry would be a good choice?

Hmm why not the upcoming1?
Poor exterior design, 10 year old technology (for 2.0L), poor specs, not value for money and marginal safety ratings. Quality is debatable as Toyota's standards have dropped in recent years. But good after sales service and resale value.

Road noise dependent on tires used

Ive heard about the good ride comfort of citroens. But good luck convincing anyone to buy one.

I've thought of getting Camry a year back (considering Camry 2.0G specs). The new design really holds me back and also comparing the specs with other similiar car in the same pricing, Camry really a sucker. Till the new optima K5 comes out, all its specs are superior to Camry at a lower price! I like K5's sunroof, keyless system, cruise mode, paddle shift, sound system... and many more features. Most of those features that you can only get for the premium spec Camry, not all. You really have to see it to believe it.

But dont forget the safety features, strong body, good road handling, good sound insulation and ample rear legroom. I was particularly impressed with the fuel economy. Ive managed to get 720km so far on my first full tank with 50-50 mixed highway and city driving. Still can go another 20km or so. Fuel economy will improve in time i guess once the engine is sufficiently run in.

I'm driving a 10 year old C segment Citroen and am happy with it. smile.gif In terms of specs (safety features) it still beats the new Camry laugh.gif And well, a second hand C5 is so cheap that really, who cares if maintenance is expensive? You save 100k in the first place, enough to pay for any problem that may arise (if you are ok with waiting for spare parts... but you'd have enough money left to buy a backup car!)

If you buy a Camry, why would you buy a new one? You only pay for it being new, but technically there is nothing new about it. Last gen Camry should be perfectly fine. Were the Camry priced at 100k it would be a perfectly fine car. Decent value for money.
