Fight me and you'll know how devastating DD thief is.

Lets just say my top critical in conquest was 9k. I also have a 57% critical rate that goes up to 60+%.

My thief regularly dishes out 4~9k crits. On light armor, I twoshot elementalists who aren't expecting me.

Its called conquest mode I believe.

Also hint for 100% LA: Order of Whispers wink.gif

Edit: Thief is very dependant on positioning and timing. I won't tell you how I play, but I will tell you that if I get caught, I die instantly. Make use of higher ground to get the jump on targets, especially in the Battle of Khylo.

I'm still working on my build and fine tuning it, but I've got most of it down to a single spike.

4-9k is imba lar. how u manage that? the cool down must be long rite for such high dmg attack.

4-9k versus light armor is it?

against heavy armor? medium armor?

my warrior killed many thieves in one on one combat lulz.
*
Thieves don't have cooldowns. My most successful chain was 8.9k > 9.6k and I killed the guy in two hits LOL.

Medium takes 5~6k from a flank attack and Heavy takes 4k or so.

Secret cause I spent a lot of time in PvP just to get it right. No point in having another PvX show up and besides each person's build is unique ma. I saw this thief make use of caltrops on dodging to allow her to flank targets. Another one used smokescreen to stealth around and confuse people.

Its not about being good lol. I don't need to share my build to win.

Its about creating your own build because mine may not work for you. It certainly won't if you have a 0.5sec delay on skill activation.

Its also not done, not perfect and has a lot of flaws. If the spike fails, you are dead. If you're caught out of position, you're dead. If your utilities are on cooldown, you're dead. If you even mistime ONE skill, your spike falls apart completely and that leaves you vulnerable

I have to constantly swap skills and traits to get what works for me PER match, so uncle please don't give me that crap about being good and sharing.

Edit: If you really die hard want the build: its Skale Venom, Signet of Shadows, Assassin's Signet, Basilisk Venom. Rest you can figure out. (From this alone you can see why the build fails if you mistime the spike. Its so reliant on basilisk venom to open that if you fail to follow up against a warrior, his spinspinspin will kill you.)

hey when i say share your build i dun mean to copy it ok, i just wanna know. i dun play a thief. i play a warrior. but if i can know how they work maybe it can help when i need to deal with them.
*
This is hard to say. For all the PvP matches I have been in, every single thief is different. In fact, I've never seen one with my build.

If you want to deal with them, especially the venomancers like me, just let them start their spike then you kill them. Some are super annoying to deal with, like those that rely on stealth - you have to use AoE attacks to hit them. Thieves rely on dodge a LOT. Their Shadow Arts, Acrobatics and Trickery have dodge related traits I believe, so you should aim to make them waste their dodges.

Edit: And my build won't work half the time against you, no need to worry about learning how to deal with it since my spike only drops warriors to maybe 50% health before they can counter. In fact, I die more to warriors and guardians due to their healing and spinspinspin.

I played Mesmer. Needs fixing, like a lot. But good thing is I can't die unless its a ranger or dagger thief. Thieves kill me so fast I don't have time to generate clones.

But if I don't meet these annoying dagger ones. I can kill them 1v1, just takes very long.

Sidenote: Whats a good class to start in GW1? and which campaign first? I keep reading different things. Ask me to create Ritualist (Factions), but one ask me to start in Nightfall first for heroes or Prophecies because its easiest?
*
Nightfall or Factions. Prophecies is the most annoying to do. Go back there when you've gotten capped gear.

Use one of those clone traits, it stops dagger thieves quite well.

All clones die with just auto swing 1.
*
Yes but those swings are usually spike starters meaning you've effectively wasted their poisons, initiative and spike starter. Look at my earlier utilities. It relies heavily on basilisk venom and skale venom. Using a clone means that if I start with dancing daggers, the bounces are wasted on your clones, thus wasting my venom count.

You get twoshotted because they're stacking so much vulnerability on you it makes your already frail defences worse. Waste their poisons and it changes slightly in your favour.

Tips for you thieves out there.
  • Dancing Dagger + Devourer Venom = bouncing ranged immobilize. Gets you out of ganks and starts ganks.
  • Shadowsteps don't really work from different level positions.
  • Always use steal - steal from necromancers = fear, steal from elementalists = burn, stun or freeze, steal from warriors = spinspinspin.
  • Venom works on all your weapon skills and I do believe it works on the axe item stolen too. It also works even when you're downed.
  • Use dodge
  • Use Stealth, it changes your first skill to something really amazing. (really)
  • Pre-prepare your poisons because if you get into the fight at the right time, you'll have them ready to be applied again.
  • Steal is also a shadowstep.
  • You can save items you stole and your steal will still recharge even if you don't use it. This means you can chain control skills.
  • Vulnerability is your best friend.
  • Heartseeker, Flanking Strike, Leaping Death Blossom are all gap closers. Use them.
  • Warriors are a betch to fight.
  • Rangers are also a betch to fight.
  • Elementalists are lunch.
  • Mesmers are supper, but they're bad for you because they give you extra calories...and the smart ones hurt.
Have fun dealing with or countering thieves.

Initiative is my resource. I don't have cooldowns and I rely on them to use skills. They range from 2~5 cost per skill so I can spam one skill or use them wisely.

Venoms are applied as per number of hits. They range from 1 hit (Basilisk) to 5 (Spider) depending on how useful they are. If I successfully apply venom and attack you but fail to continue the chain, I have just successfully wasted both my venoms and my initiative.

Without initiative, I have lost half my damage capacity and I am easy to kill because most of my play relies on quick chains of powerful skills in a short timespan.

To sum it up, all thieves play like this. To actually kill we must use high burst damage and if we fail to burst you down, we are essentially crippled ducks for a specific time-window which you must exploit.

I have updated the list of tips. Most thieves don't know that you can pre-prepare poisons before fights as you can engage before the poisons run out and have the come off cooldown mid-fight.

Thieves are not a newbie friendly class. Same as Assassin from GW1.

5 energy, heal  target other ally and bonus heal if their health is under 50% ?
oh, about stealing from warriors, i think it depend on what weapons the warrior currently using rite?

i think guardians also a betch to fight against rite?
i cannot kill guardians lulz. kena pwn by them.
*
If I'm not mistaken its usually stun or spinspinspin if you steal from a warrior. Spin is really the most worthless of the lot because the damage sucks compared to what you can dish out. Good if you're in a team fight since they have little AoE besides LDB.

Guardians? Nobody fights guardians - we run from them. Mesmers can eat them though since lolclones.

1 vs 5 and survive for 20 seconds????  shocking.gif

but the point is lost anyway right? i.e. they got 4 more members on that point.
but the rest of the members will surely cap the other points liao. or kill svanir / chieftain etc.
*
Hold that long means other two points the enemy lost (40 points~), waste of their time trying to gank 1 person (only 10 points per kill), and wasting their cooldowns means the guardian's allies could just swoop in and beat everyone like that. Truly the epitome of guarding lol.

I'll be experimenting with builds again in the next BWE. I've got in mind some stealth heavy builds and others. We'll see what goes on.

I now have a possibility of offloading 6 stacks of vulnerability (-300 defence) on the target from the get go while maintaining stealth for the entire spike. Traded some 50 power for that but its a small tradeoff for such a huge bolster in my defensive and deception capabilities. This means I may lose roughly 500 or so damage on my crits, but it doesn't matter.
