if i subscribe streamyx, will tm give me a modem or modem-router?

i heard that tm wireless router is not secure. easy to hack. true? if yes, i wanna replace it with my own tplink router, which leads to the next question:

i already have tplink mr3420 router. what is the best/stable modem available in the market today?
