After months of looking around, I wish to share with you my experience and hope it helps you with your home renovation needs. It is not easy to keep surveying around for the best deals in town and sometimes you end up paying more than what you should. Note that these tips are also for those who are on looking for moderately priced items but nice looking.
1. Lights/Fans
a. Houses of Lighting, Puchong, Jln BFU 6, Puchong Utama
b. Silver Star Lighting - The 19 USJ City Mall - 2nd Floor
2. Electrical
- This depends, I went to Courts as they had promotion but I am kinda regretting it now because the way they make the orders is dependant on stock availability, I don't know when I will get my electrical items from them!
- HLK
3. Furniture
- Don't be fooled by the prices you see online. I just bought a sofa set for much lesser than this other shop which is simply famous for it's name, hunt for newly opened shops where you can easily get a bargain. Shops I can recommend for now is Havanna Deco, Your Home both along Ampang Waterfront.
4. Sink - double sink bowl shouldn't cost any more that 180.
5. Clothes Hanger - 6ft expandable type - shouldn't cost any more that 150
6. for 20k below are the things you can do for renovation
- kitchen cabinet with L-Shape - open concept
- airconds in 4 areas plus casing work
- shower screen in two bathrooms
- light installation - for about 20 lights
- bathroom accessories - 2x cabinet, 2x towel rack, 2x tissue holder, 2 times glass holder, 2 times side rack
- water heater installation
- partitioning
etc
Unfortunately with this contractor we had, he disappointed us with the aircond job as the casing work done was messy and did not include boxing. Please ensure your contractor does not compromise with the casing work and for the price you are paying them, make sure they do the right job!
7. Curtains
- Go to Maju Home in Setapak, the lady there does a good job and price is quite reasonable.
- alternatively go to Kamdar but i was put off by the worker there who refused to give me a copy of the quotation.
- I am not a fan on IKEA but you can get nice basic stuff from there, like dustbins, floor mat, wall pics, kitchen utensils.
Okay, I guess that's about it. Hope this helps and happy shopping!
