the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) has finally received confirmation from the Education Ministry regarding the land application of SJK © Kheng Chee in Pusat Bandar Puchong.
Last year, it was revealed that another school, SJK (T) Castlefield, had applied for the same plot of land in Jalan Wawasan 5/3, Pekan Kinrara, to relocate because the proposed LRT project would have six pillars built in the school compound.
It was previously reported that the SJK © Kheng Chee construction committee had received a stop-work order from the council on March 30.
The council had stated that the construction of the school had begun without its approval and had instructed the school to stop work immediately.
MPSJ councillor Pooi Weng Keong said the council had received the official letter from the ministry on May 8 that the school had been granted 1.2ha of land so their planning approval application would be brought to the one-stop committee meeting next week.
“The application for planning approval will have to go through all the various departments for scrutiny before approval,” Pooi told reporters at the MPSJ headquarters yesterday.
Councillor Ng Sze Han said they initially could not proceed with the approval because there was a problem with the land title.
“The Tamil school had written a letter of protest against SJK © Kheng Chee’s application because they had also applied for the same piece of land.
“We have no jurisdiction over land matters for schools so we had to write to the ministry to clarify the matter. Now that we have the official reply from the ministry, we can process their application,” said Ng.
The ministry letter stated that 1.2ha of land would be used by the Chinese school with the remaining 1.2ha “kept for future use.”
“Now that the air is cleared, we urge the ministry to also consider the application by the Tamil school to relocate. The construction of the LRT project has already started and soon, they will build the pillars in the school field and it will not be conducive for the pupils to continue studying there,” said Pooi.
