MOTORISTS using the Damansara-Puchong High-way (LDP) from Petaling Jaya to go towards Putrajaya have been reminded to use the dedicated express lanes at the Petaling Jaya (southbound) toll plaza at Bandar Sunway.
Lingkaran Trans Kota Sdn Bhd engineering head Francisco Anthony Doss said the system was implemented last week to ease the congestion at the toll plaza.
“We now have five dedicated lanes for cars going towards Putrajaya, Shah Alam and the residential areas beyond the IOI Business Park,” said Doss during a press conference called by Puchong parliamentary liaison officer Datuk Loo Yeng Peng.
Loo said his office received a lot of complaints from residents after the system was implemented on Oct 6.
“They were very concerned because there was a bottleneck at the Kesas Highway exit to Puchong. I think many people were also not aware of the segregated toll plaza and lanes,” he said.
Doss said there were about 70,000 cars per day using the toll plaza, out of which 46% were headed towards Putrajaya and Shah Alam and the other 54% towards Bandar Puchong Jaya, Bukit Jalil or Old Klang Road.
After the system was implemented, there are now five dedicated lanes, including two Smart Tag lanes, at the Toll Plaza A (yellow signboard) for Putrajaya-bound traffic and six lanes, including two Smart Tag lanes, at the Toll Plaza B (green signboard) for motorists who want to go to Bukit Jalil or Jalan Klang Lama.
“It used to take about 20 minutes to clear the traffic after the toll plaza but with the dedicated lanes, it takes only about two minutes. It will be faster for residents who want to go anywhere beyond the IOI Business Park to keep right and take Plaza A so that they can use the express lane. They can still get to their destination if they take the left lanes but it will take longer,” he said.
Puchong MCA chairman Datuk Wong Hock Aun said they also received complaints from motorists who were caught unaware by the segregated lanes.
“Those who ended up on the right lanes had no choice but to make a U-turn after the IOI Business Park and they would get caught in the congestion on the other side of the highway,” said Wong.
Doss said these are teething problems and it would take about three weeks for motorists to experience the benefits of the new system.
Loo advised Puchong residents who were headed towards areas such as Puchong Perdana, Puchong Permai, Bandar Putri Puchong and Pusat Bandar Puchong to follow the yellow signboard on the right and use Plaza A.
“Some of the congestion after the toll plaza is caused by the LRT construction work along the Bukit Jalil Highway. I have written to the Public Works Department to see if they can upgrade the junction going towards Bukit Jalil, to ease the congestion.
“We were also initially concerned if this new system would affect the ongoing LRT construction works in the Puchong area, but Litrak has assured us that it would not,” said Loo.
Those who have enquiries can call the LDP helpline at 03-7494 7333.
