The problem is because you're feathering the edges. When feathering, it does what it says, blurring the edges of the selection.
For rounded edges, select the area you want, then choose: Select -> Modify -> Smooth The sample radius defines the size of the curved edge. |

yes, dont feather. but if u insist on feathering, then u could at least make a selection, inverse it, and delete everything around ur centerpiece.
so u dont get the faded wood part on the edges. **off topic** the scanlines on ur userbars are too thick, lower ur opacity down a bit more just a thought. |

Double click your marquee tool at the tool bar and when the tool box appears set the feather column to 0
