redsn0w jailbreak has always been the same, i don't see the need for a guide though.

Note that 5.0 and 5.0.1 jailbreak's are the same, u can use a 5.0.1 absinthe for 5.0, no problems

U must first jailbreak the phone without ticking iPad baseband , then after that's done , open redsnow and untick install Cydia , but tick install iPad baseband , u can't do both simultaneously hope this helps

already restored my 4S to clean 5.1.1 ,

Waiting anxiously for 830pm mark , Then i can see if theres any improvement or degradation in battery life

restoring is better in my opinion ,

It helps start fresh , all clean without any tweaks / problems

Some said that restoring 5.0.1 helped improve battery life, compared to those who had updated to 5.0.1 ,


Last time i updated it , i was missing some icons after jailbreaking, turns out i had to do a clean restore and then backup

2 more hours to go!

Jailbreaking as we speak

at first my 4S was unsuccessful, i had to restore it then rejailbreak after activating it .

Then i restored my backup via iBackupBot

i've had a good increase in battery life compared to 5.0.1

I restored a clean 5.1.1 , then restored my backup via itunes

i'm very satisfied with the battery life on the 4s with 5.1.1 ,

i can make it through 9 hours of sleep with only 4-6 % gone in the morning! ( 3g / data / wifi on )

Pleased to say i used it for roughly 3 hours with 10 hours standby , remaining 50% !

Guys, would appreciate the help if possible ,

recently my iphone 4 running Gevey ( not ultra ) stopped working , and kept showing No Sim card installed 3 or 4 days ago .

So i tried to reboot and redo the steps, but that didn't work either .

I then assumed the gevey was dead since it was a year old . I purchased a new Gevey Ultra for iPhone 4 online and the same problem occured! What is happening ?

I'm certain the gevey is original , since it has a F981 chip on it . My simcard is definitely working since i've tested it on another phone . I've tried another carrier as well but it didnt work , Digi / Celcom .

Any thoughts guys? googling around yet didnt help

Restore + Shift to update is to ensure a clean install so that past problems if any, wont occur again

So its always recommended to restore it that way, and then restore ur backup + sync.



To my knowledge, iPhone 4S has extra 'security' , so as to prevent any downgrades .

wonder what happened to the news of the guy who claimed he found a significant bootrom exploit - to be released very soon

anyway cant complain, its free . Just gonna hope for an early christmas present

5.1.1 window has been closed long long time ago already,

no way of upgrading unless u have the saved shsh.

Try using Snowbreeze to send it into 'PWNED DFU' mode .

that way u can restore it using custom firmwares

iOS6 for iPhone 4S cannot be jailbroken yet

5.1.1 can be jailbroken using absinthe,redsnow

i restored to 6.1 fresh the moment evad3rs mentioned its safe to upgrade .

So far been very good with it, battery life seems to have improved a little bit , probably an extra 10 %
