Fitting quality depends on luck, and UMWT do make some PDI checks, just that some problems may surfaced later - hence ask them what is the warranty coverage.

Updates from OEM are usually a mission impossible, and the map updates are not free.

Maybe, but as this MSM is custom modified for UMWT, it is likely different in structure from retail garmin units. Some details from the net:

It's a Panasonic head unit powered by Garmin AVN blackbox with Dead Reckoning using MSM NT map. MSM does not have a contract with either Panasonic or Toyota for this preload and it's a direct arrangement between between Panasonic / Toyota and Garmin.

The toyota dvd avn comes with photo for junctions. After upgraded with malfeeemap, no more junction photo.

the dvd avn is std unit for most toyota sold here.

i am not sure of ipod comaptibility or what that means but it does have 3.5" jack and usb (havent tried)

bluetooth with my fon is quite good, altho the audio may break up.

my grip is that if my music is playing and my gps is on, i cannot hear the voiceover instruction from gps.

no did not...not gonna mess with it until i research more on this. should have more info in other toyota threads la. this unit is not unique to prius c.

hmm no idea havent explore it but my area is unmapped and probably will never be. i will likely research how well malfreemaps works with this car, cos i am a mfm supporter.

some buyers need to feel sporty regardless of what they drive. honda, so happens, caters to such a market.
i suppose so... how do you check the year of the map? is it checkable direct from the dvd-avn unit?

here;s my short trip to Bentong (Pahang) yesterday.

after the genting toll (RM5), you will need climb a bit of slope. The car runs very smooth without any revving sound if you can maintained the speed but as the slope getting stepper, the engine sound roar more loudly and that time you can see your FC from eg. 22.2km/l goes down 22km/l...to 19.9.. 19.8.. 19.6... till 19.00 (mine experience)...do not use fast lane or try to be hero and cut car infront cuz as you want to rev your car to cut the car infront, you will find it very hard and almost unreachable.

as finished the slope and start going downhill after pass thru the tunnel, shift the car to B and it will drag the gear 60++ and goes all the way down, that is the first time i saw my hybrid battery was FULLY CHARGE (full bars) and the FC will increase from 19km/l back to 23

It was fun going down slope cuz the B mode can safe your car from cruising even thou you press hard on the brake.

Uphill was certainly no a fun thing for Prius C as the feeling is that your car is stopped there and see a lot of cars pass you thru very easily...hahaha
