Hello all. I'm quite curious about the outcome of these two methods. As far as I know, not many people in Malaysia use these methods. Many prefer tiles. But I find it to look good if done artistically (from Youtube). Has anyone done this before? Kindly share your experience and costs. Which one is more expensive? Tiles or stenciling? Any other pros and cons? Does the cement crack after sometime? Thanks.

Imprint and stenciling are 2 different methods. Imprint uses a rubber mat with various patterns and are stamped onto freshly laid concrete after half hour or so (depending on concrete mix).

Stenciling from what I understand originates from Australia. Their methods are somewhat different. It comes in rolls of selected patterns. It is a few mm thick. Erm, they look like netting (best description my brain can think of lol). Laid on concrete and then removed when dry. If I am not mistaken, this cost more than stamping.

Both methods I have seen how it is done first hand.

Does it have any cracks over time? I've seen imprints done on cement fences. Look authentic enough, not the boring flat surface. I'm more thinking of car porch though. Wondering how lasting and how costly compared to using tiles.

Both are just different methods to create patterns. If cracks occurs, it isn't because of one or the other. What I normally see are used on driveway. If your house does not come with either, the only method I see if to hack off the entire slab of the driveway, pour new concrete and do the stamping/stenciling.

I've seen some people just lay about 2 inch of cement screed and then do stamping over it. 50mm, with no reinforcement and meant for vehicle to drive in and out, it SURELY will crack.

I see. Thanks for the advice. Cost wise, do you have any idea which one is more expensive compared to tiling? Understand We still have to put a layer of colourant and then another layer of sealant. Are these material expensive?

Thanks. Guess it's still more economical to use tiles.

Perhaps you got it mix up. That is not concrete imprint. That is acid staining on concrete.
