If I'm not wrong, they will need to install a "pizza box" at your area for fibre optic lines to enjoy Streamyx. TMNet will only install a "pizza box" if your area has high demand for it. Correct me if I'm wrong.

My area has fiber too and it took them a long time to install the pizzabox in my area before I could get Streamyx. But talking about fiber, I don't think any area which uses fiber are actually fiber all the way. What I mean is it's usually fiber and copper connected together some point along the way. That's why all these problems and the need for pizzabox etc. Another thing I noticed about fiber and copper mix is that when I was using my dial-up connection before this, my 56Kbps modem could only connect at about 28kbps. It doesn't allow 56kbps connections in this kind of fiber setup.

Again its possible, yes..They would need to install a pizzabox. Yep , its possible .. It would take sometime for them to install a pizzabox . But if the demand is high , they would install it

Depends on demand around your area for styreamyx. I have a friend with fibre waiting for 2 years before TMNET decide to offer streamyx in the area.

Getting Started

|
As far as the area under fiber is concerned there shouldn't be any constraint on distance. Mostly TM lays fiber till the switch (the telekom box near your Taman) where the pizza box is fixed. The duty of the pizza box is to convert the signal from the copper wire into one compatible for fiber transmission. Hence the copper wire basically is from your house telephone set to the the TM switch which is a few hundred meters and hence the ADSL actually works only between your house and the TM switch. From the TM switch to the exchange is fiber all the way and fiber does not have the same characteristics as that of copper wire. You can transmit signals over long distances using fiber and you can have an optical amplifier at the end to boost the signal strength. Hence theoretically the distance restriction should be removed in the fiber areas. I am not sure why they stick to that distance restriction in areas of fiber.

copper or fiber is irrelevant. stop getting so paranoid. the reason why your area is not covered YET because there is no substantial demand as is the case with some NEW housing areas. that's all to it.
if you need connection more than 2 Mbps in the future (whatever technology that is), you'll need fiber optic. copper wiring just won't cut.

You can get higher speed than 2Mbps with copper wire but...your house must be next to the exchange lah. The technology is there already but the deployment is not viable at all here in Malaysia.
