QUOTE(Nightstalker1993 @ Apr 27 2012, 09:43 PM) its used to cool down the engine after it is shut down to preserve the engine if not mistaken. I think the water pump is still operating when the fan is operating. correct me if i'm wrong I m not sure why it's designed as such. I don't see jap car like this. Jap car also very long life. I don't see the purpose anyway. Water pump still operating? Is the water pump running on electric? If it's not running on electric, then i m sure water pump cannot run without the engine running. Am i making any sense here? |

QUOTE(tplcaik @ Apr 28 2012, 02:03 AM) Although I do not have the answer to this question, but it reminds me of Lifetime Warranty of power windows by Proton as stated here:http://www.proton-edar.com.my/After-Sales/...e-Warranty.aspx No mention of Proton Preve, does it cover Preve as well? Maybe they haven't update their page? |

I thought it's normal for cars running on turbos to sort of 'cool down' before the engine should be stopped? Isn't that why cars equipped with turbo kits use a turbo timer? So perhaps in proton's case, since the turbo is a low pressure boost, only the fan continues running to cool it down instead of having the entire engine unit running? (correct me if i'm wrong)

For the case in Persona, I heard many people said the fan also act this way, continue spinning for some time after the car is locked.
But my Persona isn't act this way, only once after I changed timing belt recently and the mechanic not properly tighten some seal/screw so my radiator run dried and temperature runs high. Only this one time, the fan continue to run even I shut down the engine and removed the key. So what I guess is, the fan will only continue to spin when the temperature is higher than the set "safe region". Anyway, this is just my guess. |

If your water pump is electric, then it makes some sense. If water pump runs on pulley connected to engine, then fan running after engine shut off will be useless. So, persona, saga, preve all electric water pump ? Owner pls hv a look at your engine bay. I m interested to know. thanks.
Added on April 28, 2012, 3:07 amFrom simple google search for persona water pump, i see that it has a pulley that needs the engine to be running to circulate the water from engine to radiator n vice versa. I assumed it's the same for preve. So, why on earth is the fan running after turning off the engine? It still doesn't make sense to me at all. Fan running to cool the radiator, but no water circulation. Heat transfer by conduction will be much slower in this process without water circulation. Any photo to share?
I think it's for the turbo only right? It's not the engine water pump. Engine water pump runs with the engine, no electric pump. This post has been edited by ahsam1212: Apr 28 2012, 03:27 AM |

QUOTE(K2002 @ Apr 27 2012, 09:31 PM) hmmm. not too sure why is it suppose to be like that or all turbo cars will be having a hot air flowing down to the floor... after i power off the car. Lock the car. the alternator fan will still run for 1 minute or 2 before it auto close it self. is it applicable to all turbo cars? the sales person says all soft turbo got intercooler. this car intercooler is place near the tyre on the left hand side.... is it right or wrong not too sure..i dunno how to check what part what part also. and is bit too noisy if open air cond...inside cannot hear...but outside seems like a very huge fan spinning. can feel the heat outside at the floor. the bonnet also feel so much hotter compare to my normal carburetor car. 1.3 daihatsu charade. of course both is compare after running on the road for more than 30 minutes. both car is warm up 1 or 2 minutes before run. even 308 turbo also having this feature dude.. the fan will keep on spinning to cool it off after you have switched off the engine... don't worry too much... |

The spinning fan after switching off engine is normal, it's present on the Exora Bold CFE as well, and it is quite loud
The Campro engine itself runs rather hot compare to other makes, not to mention now it comes with a turbo. |

I never heard about the fan things before. If the fans still spinning even after the engine shut off in order to cool down the radiator or engine is something good. It suites with malaysian tropics climate. I guess prtn learned that many cars in malaysia had overheating problem.
