Thanks for clarifying.
Anyhow, to me, Potong doesn't exist because it is a combination of "bought" technology tweaked a lil' here and there and claiming it as their own. I will not even consider it if I am getting a new car.

Well, you guys can laugh all you want but deep down we all know what "bought" technology is and we all know how original Potongs are.
G'day mates. All the best with your Potongs.

haishhh, still people dont understand how tax sytems work. Under afta, any asean car is subjected to excise duty aka local taxes regardless local made, locally assemble or even cbu using atleast 40% of local components(local components means asean made components).

Under customs act, for excise duty, they used 2 diff terms, but same rate, that is import excise duty, n local excise duty. U need to download n read on excise duty under customs act n under the documentation, it shows how to calculate tax on import product n tax for local product.

Prtn is local product, so, under customs acts, it deems to excise duty even selling at malaysian free trade area coz it is not an import product. It is local. U shud read also under free trade area under customs act.

If other cars being imposed exice duty not as local means malaysia is not abide to afta rules n its been rule out since 2009, malaysia already following afta rules means any asean made has the same tax brackets as local one, meaning no tax barrier. N malaysia has been prnalised by thais because not abide to afta by thais gov, n people think that malaysia g has to pay money for it, but it is not. Actually the punishment is that prtn being tax 20% more on local tax in thai compare to toyota, honda n etc that is asean made.

Lazy to give link coz so many times people being giving out links n people still being ignorance. The table in maa is just tables to simplify things. If want to know more, read on customs act which available in customs website.

Going offtopic : No point blaming govt for this and that. Election coming up. Do what you must do.

ps : I believe those that do not exercise their right to vote, does not have the right so say a single word against the govt. They deserve what they get.

Simple. They want people to think it's so expensive because of tax. smile.gif When the tax rates were lowered they didn't give the saved money to the customers, but kept it to themselves.

@Az prevay:
I disagree. If you buy a Camry I ask why Camry? Competitors are much more interesting. Better, safer, faster cars. Camry is ASEAN spec. If you buy Alphard I ask why Alphard, you can only get a second hand one. Buy a VW Sharan instead, or buy a commercial van and modify it into a luxury vehicle.

The Prius is ok though. The price is somewhat fair, the specs are good. After all it is JDM.

I think the Vios has 2 airbags now because they are forced to. Not allowed to sell with only 1...

Toyota has 65% tax for cars (fully?) made in the ASEAN countries, like the Vios. If it is CKD in Malaysia, then 75%. The CBU ones, like Alphard, Wish (?) are 105% IIRC. Prius is 0% (?) because it is a hybrid.

Btw. I think it is a good move to subsidize hybrids and electric vehicles, but what about enforcing high standards in terms of clean cars? Make sure all cars have catalytic converters, test the cars and tax them accordingly. Those with a real stinker get some sort of support when they scrap their old stinker and buy a very clean car. The air in Malaysia just isn't as good as it is in Europe for example, and I believe it has a lot to do with the cars they drive, which in turn is steered by such policies.

True. Vios is no competition. Outdated B segment deathtrap car. 207... it's not a 207, it's a 206. From 14 years ago. Also B segment. Myvi... again B segment, again no proper competition. The main competitor is the Forte, as both are budget C segment cars. Other competitors would be Altis, Civic, Focus, Golf/Jetta, ...

I'm curious how the first reviews from Europe etc. will be.

no, u got me wrong.. someone said vios is taxed 10% more compare to local brand car, so i wonder y langkawi price dropped such figure, no 10% IMO.. and for Prius, dun think it is 100% tax exemption..
