Just got myself a Nexus. Kinda new to android and don't really know how to use it. May I ask, what can i do with the phone if I root it? And is it advisable to root the phone? And also, if I root the phone, if there any chances that I might screw the phone up like crashing the os or something like that?

p/s: Sorry for all the noob questions. Bare with me as a newbie to androids. =)
*
congrats rclxms.gif

once you root your phone, you'll be able to flash custom ROMs, kernel, radio, use apps that requires root access (especially titanium backup for full apps backup), have full control of system files, full control of CPU allowing you to OC/UV, and probably more.

the chances of you screwing up the phone is 0.0000001% (could be less but you get the point)

so yea, the question would be why not?

how to use otg cable.. the last time i plugged it in.. gnex is not reading anything.. leftovers from my ex (sgs2)
*
you have to install stickmount, it will require root access

QUOTE(DarkSilver @ Apr 24 2012, 09:28 PM)
Actually, most phones are better without those casings...

Some casings are just too bulky, IMO.
*
Ringke is the slimmest case, and its the only case I can tolerate. But still I prefer using the phone naked tongue.gif

Why commend on SAMOLED screen instead of camera quality? lol.

I dont know about that but full quote can be found here

QUOTE
The Samsung GALAXY Nexus smartphone features intelligent applications including many high-end imaging features. The new HD Super AMOLED display offers an impressive resolution of 720p (1280x720). This innovative display allows users to view photos and videos in a high resolution with a wide angle of view. The built-in camera delivers decent photo quality for everyday use, capturing still photos with 5 MP resolution, including panorama mode, plus Full HD 1080p videos. The zero-shutter-lag helps to capture snapshots spontaneously. The Samsung smartphone comes with intelligent image editing effects such as silly faces and background replacement. Based on the Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich" operating system, the GALAXY Nexus offers a modern OS environment for sophisticated imaging related apps.

The annual meeting of the Technical Image Press Association to vote for the best photographic and imaging products in 2012 was held on 24 March 2012 in Cape Town, South Africa.

I'm not saying its the best, I'm just saying what I've been saying all this while, which is that the camera is actually decent, good enough for day to day photos meant for social sharing. And this award just enforce it further tongue.gif

the S3 is using quad core Exynos 4, but not that good, as it is still cortex A9. But if its the new generation Exynos 5 that uses cortex A15, then different story. rclxms.gif

Extract MIUIsystemUI.apk
Select res
Select  drawable-hdpi
Look for these files
ic_sysbar_back
ic_sysbar_back_land
ic_sysbar_menu_big
ic_sysbar_menu_land_big
ic_sysbar_recent
ic_sysbar_recent_land
ic_sysbar_back
ic_sysbar_back_land

[MIUI don't have search key, so I use HTC One X search keys which match with MIUI ones]
Copy all them then paste on new file and transfer to sdcard of your Galaxy Nexus

How to copy and mod?
-Open Root Explorer>System>app>long press SystemUI.apk select extract
-Go to extracted> "Back key" > find your just made folder with MIUI softkeys>"menu">Multiple select all of them>copy into the extracted system.UI which is the path [res>drawable_xhdpi>paste there]
-zip the extracted file and name it SystemUI.apk
-then paste to /system/ enable r/w then change permission to rw-r--r--
-then only you paste into /system/app
-the device will auto reboot or you manually reboot.
-if success, you get MIUI keys if you fail, nandroid backup because likely bootloop due to wrong permissions.

holyshit, didn't expect it to be this much work tongue.gif

whatsapp works great ah, where you see say cannot?

no, it only doesn't sync with your phonebook, unless you install haxsync

but it will still sync, as in widgets still display the latest fb status updates

Hey guys,

Just want to clarify does the Samsung Galaxy Nexus use a SUPER AMOLED or SUPER AMOLED HD screen?

Coz on gsmarena it states SUPER AMOLED.
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_nexus-4219.php
But on Wikipedia is states SUPER AMOLED HD.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_AMOLED

Am actually tossing between this and the Samsung Galaxy Advance.

Thanks.

Cheers.
*
if you're comparing this with Galaxy Advance, then the choice is CLEAR. And I hope I don't need to spell it out to you. tongue.gif

btw, FINALLY I can update my ROM... woohoo

oh and, any new user that I have not added into user list please leave a reply here or pm me, so I can do so asap. smile.gif
