actually, K5 is a very good car with a very good spec... planning to get one. however, what worry me is the glove compartment, seems flimsy. any forumers have the same issue? or it is inherent design flaw? any solution for that?

having a flawed glove box will give some heart ache after paying so much for he car

till today, i have no problem with the glove box...in fact, i open the driver side car door, or using the paddle shifter, or the boot release, or the electronic seat hell lot more than the glove box...and none of them bother me the least

my point is, glove compartment box is small part of the car, and u wont be using it any more than the above mentioned...in fact, ur wife will use it more to store their tissue or their sunglasses or keep their 2nd/3rd sling/handbag/makeup bag...and my wife been doing it, and till now no prob after 2 mths

if it is only glove box that hinder u from buying this car, then this is a good car !!

What he means is that the glove box is quite flimsy and the closing mechanism is not good. Ive experienced this in many test drive cars. This was also mentioned on overseas websites. But as ive said before, no such thing as a perfect car so i guess ill overlook this. More important are the specs, design, engine, transmission and the 5 yr warranty.

is there anywhere to tweak the mechanism to make the glove box feel a more smooth in opening and closing?

yeah i know...but i think i open it less than 3 times till date...so not bothering me as a critical issue there...flimsy during the opening, sliding mechanism but there is no cracking sound while the car moving...

but take note on the current issue of rear seat sound as mentioned by some owners here..that is big issue !!

As for the glove box, i feel that closing is a problem. One solution will be you need to press the button when you close then should be fine. But if you are driving alone, this is not possible because right hand is pushing the button and left hand is closing the glove box so how about steering wheel?

i guess taiko K5White meant given all the spec, why bother the least important?

i have the same thinking, glove box flimsy feel is just a very very minor issue. It might make u feel less 'shiok' with that price tag with a flimsy glovebox, but what the heck......other spec u don't even get at that price tag! And my car is coming this week!!! yeah!

I woud like to consult you all on something which i have no experience on. I finshed paying for my first car a year ago. The bank has issued me a release letter and also the registration card. Now if i were to trade in my old car for a new k5, do i need to first inform jpj that i have finished paying for my first car? and can i just allow the SA to settle everything for me?

no need to inform JPJ. The release letter is just a formality for u to know as confirmation that the ownership endorsement for the car has been removed by the bank from the JPJ system. If it is not removed from the system, u cant sell the car even with the release letter. The release letter was used prior to 2007, when they all switch to online control.

If u bring ur registration card to JPJ, they will cross chop sign the "hakmilk dituntut oleh Maybank Finance Bhd" without charges...but if any shop taking ur car, they can do online search to check if the car is clear of debt

I have same situation like you where my car been release from bank 3 yrs ago and I have yet inform JPJ. No worry, pay you booking and SA will settle this hassle for you.

First time driving the K5 under heavy rain yesterday night. Boy were the nexen tyres noisy! It's so loud that it drowned the radio sound at volume 11.

Nexen is noisy but not that noisy gua. For that price, its perform exceptionally good.

I already changed my one to Michelin PS3. Not bad during dry but very good during raining day.

But the new Goodyear F1 should be better according to CM98. Wait for him to change first and lets you know Though, you need to use slightly bigger size tyre. 235/45 R18 since dont have our stock size of 225/45 R18.

Using it and very satisfied with it.

Already answered it at previous Optima thread. It is a safety feature to prevent over rev the engine and gearbox. Read your manual book. It is at Chapter 5 Page 18.

I try playing with the radio today and i found out that i can play song using my handphone(android) through bluetooth connection. I dono if this is new discovery or not ?

here is how i do it:
1. Pair your Hp as handset
2. Press Mode button(on steering) until [Phone mode] and is should display "Play MP3"
3. play mp3 at ur HP and the sound come out from car speaker.

Guys, just wanna check on the security tinting film. Do u think it is sufficient to only stick on 3mil film on the side windows?

One of my friend whom is in tinting business told me not to use any film more than 4mil as it potentially causing mechanism jam over the power window after few years, especially if u use a lot of power window. Any input here based on experience?

Why do they prefer the Sonata? Its actually a no brainer. I dont see any aspect of the Sonata which makes it superior to the Optima.

My Optima arrived in Ipoh on Wed night. But now waiting for the number plate to change to WWR before they can register.

Go for Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 2 la. Its rated better than even Michelin Pilot Sport 3. Efficient Grip is medium range.

Is it as silent as Efficient Grip or Yokohama DB? I'm more towards comfort and silence. Lesser on the performance though, if you can recommend some other brands for my range and preferences that would be awesome!

I'm also looking at Continental ContiMaxContact MC5.

sonata interior and exterior design is more smooth, curvy look, which suitable for more gentle ride..interior more futuristic (high spec)... K5 got that exterior attractive, head turning, aggressive look

quite frustrated with my high fuel consumption nissan at the moment....

same like what others mentioned before, i just insured my windscreen/windows/sunroof on the normal standard 15% insurance premium from the total sum insured. In my case, i paid rm450 for rm3k coverage.

I think without your consent, they are unable to collect the release letter. You can ask the bank to courier or fax to you.

Hey, anyone fixed the rattling sound from the back seat (which is said to come from one of the panels) at red cube PJ?
Any news if the sound got fixed bros?

Yes shd be like Rainaway but this window coating can last more than a year. Will update Once i get further info

Hi, i just went for a test drive at bangsa KIA. The SA who was showing me the car didnt know how to change the LCD display. I wanted to drive with the display showing how much of petrol consumption. However the SA couldnt be bother and asked me to drive. Anyway, after the test drive he asked another SA to help change the dsiplay and it shows 18.1lt/100km.

Question: Is this accurate? What does this mean? Does it mean that according to the last 'drive' the fuel consumption is 18.1lt/100km?

My concern is that although NAZA claims the fuel consumption of a K5 is approximately 7.6lt/100km, will this deterioate after time. If it does, how fast will it happen?

I remeber seeing someone posted here that his fuel consumption is 10.(something)lt/100km for a 3 months car.

Btw, the car i tested in Bangsa Kia is a 2011 and not a 2012 car.

I get my car from Bangsar branch. There are two branches there. One is test drive center and the other is show room. Look for Nesh at Bangsar show room,he can answers all your questions with good service. Pm me for his no.

Obviously, it is not accurate. Fuel consumption for K5 is on par with the rest of the car in segment D.

My consumption is around 9.25lt / 100km. Much depends on your way of driving.

If you ask me, I dont see any problem with it as long as all the info is accurate and true.

Dear all K5 fans,
I am considering SG, my only worry is do I need to re-paint my car after say 5 years? I mean they offer 5 years warranty, let say after 5 years all the coating disappear, will the coating eaten up the paint?
