Lowyat.net & Pla-Zone.com Collaborative Group Build

2012 Back To Basic Group Build

Objective

This first collaborative group build organized by LYN & Pla-zone is mainly aim for modelers who doesn’t have that much time for modeling and to those who simply prefer to build models as per Bandai’s original design. The time & effort being put into completing such built generally gain misconception that it’s too fast & effortless for modelers. Therefore one of the reason of the GB is to show the world what we can do with snapfits & OOB, it’s time to earn back some respect!
Of course, that’s secondary. The bottom line is, just to have our own group build and have tons of fun!!!!

General Rules & Regulations

- The group build will start 16th April 2012 & end by 30th May 2012 (Time:2359/11:59pm). Submission after the time will not be entertained.
- Participants shall put their names(LYN & Pla Zone)& preferably the kit he’s building in this thread for mod n admin will update the namelist in the first post. All discussion n Q&A will be carried in this LYN thread. (So just chat, shoot, give n share ideas, motivate each others here)
-No wip(Work in progress) needed. However, if u feel like having some photos n share, do feel free to post them here in the existing WIP thread
-Participant can submit more than one entries. Each entry needs one specific completed kit thread for judging will be based on one thread-one judging.
- Participants can join more than one categories too.
-Points from judging will not be revealed.

Snapfit Category

-As its name, the entry CANNOT be fully covered with paint; besides top coat. Partially covered with paint is allowed. Hence it’s to encouraged participant to do panel lining, color some small rivet, some parts that’s supposed to have color but doesn’t come with original Bandai kits.
- Aftermarket & kit bash is allowed: If u want, water slide decal, metal thruster, movable manupulators are allowed. For kit-bashing, u can do whatever u want, but bare in mind, since u cannot color the kit in full, make sure the color of the kit u r bashing does match with each other.
-Top Coat is allowed.
-Photography for judging: 1 front, 1 back, 1 left, 1 right are the minimum requirement. Action pose n close up is encourage. Simply, besides the 4 standard photos, post as many interesting photos as possible to impress the judges for extra point.
- One Title photography is allowed: This means the photo can be edited with background photos, effects, custom wordings for title etc might help u get an extra point or so. Eg, making it looks like an OVA DVD movie poster, manga cover etc. (Extra mecha can be used but will only be considered as part of the background)
- Judging:
40% fundamental ground work (nip mark, cleanliness, panel line, decal/stickers etc)
40% Presentation: action pose, angle, title photo etc. Tips: do anything that u think will impress the judge. Eg, u can even have a brief story, n make it into a movie poster style, with very dynamic action pose.
20% photography.

-Prize:

- Waterslide decal is allowed. Besides that, NO after market nor kit bashing is allowed. No metal thruster, koto parts. As its name, we want it to be original Bandai’s design.
- Putty can be used for covering seamlines n any imperfection only. U cannot use putty to re-create something new. Eg, DON’T think it’s a grey area where u use putty to create an extra spike on a zaku shoulder.
-Parts can be cut or modified solely for the purpose of easy painting. Again as long as it doesn’t change the original shape. Eg, cut certain parts so u can cover seamlines n paint the inner frame separately.

As per stated in the rules n regulations... completed kit thread with the title "BTB:...." need to be posted in pla-zone's respective sections. Otherwise kits wont be judged. please read the first post carefully.

As for wip, u can open a thread over there, or just post here for everyone to see.

*
some correction....WIP only can be shown in the WIP thread or in here....
you are not allowed to open new WIP thread just to show your GB works in here

people...please read the first page rules...
i keep seeing most ppl asking stuff that actually been written in the rule on the first page over and over again

even capalang camera also can take a clear picture actually

if can pls dont put any bokeh effect into your picture..this will "maybe" cost you judging marks cause we cannot see properly your nice work

for a tripod...yes even using the gunpla box also can if you are creative enough to make it hold your camera

another thing is lighting...those cheap ikea table light with good white bulb should do nicely and the result can be like those picture rayloke just post....

see if i got some free time from my work...i will post up some lighting setup picture for lazy ppl tongue.gif

bokeh originate from japanese word is blur effect

example like this pic...you see the front gun are blur
this is not really good if you are using this kind of picture for judging...so hence you might lost some marks

for photography bokeh can make your picture nice to see...but for shooting product its not advisable to have bokeh effect on any part of you product/model

also another note for judging purposes....

its better for all you guys completed works been shot with white or black background...
pls try to avoid shooting your kit in front of laptops or very messy background

something like this would be nice

nice lesson...some new things i learn today

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

i only got my handphone for photo taking...Samsung Wave 575...that photo are the result using my phone
*
this is common mistake when taking pictures using handphone cam....when you try to focus your subject up close to it...you end up focusing the sofa behind you

this is why i suggest use white/black background
phone cam focusing not as smart as point and shoot camera....so when you get to near the subject it will focus stuff behind your subject instead

i will have rayloke alter the rules abit for online participants are required to have black/white background for their completed kit for judging later
this is to be fair and also saving yourself for losing marks

as diorama has no marks at all....i dont recommend taking picture outdoor example on grass or all those
if you kit on diorama base made by you or those koto base...then make sure the background still plain color

^ ur picture have a lighting problem...u just use your room lights only right

for judging pictures (front, rear, side) are not allowed to photoshop so you better try to take a good picture
only one picture are allowed to be photoshop which you can do some effect or put your watermark on it

since this GB are base on internet and also judging also from internet (judged by looking at the photos only)
so you guys need to have a good picture to avoid loosing points

taken from some website....this is how roughly the idea on how to set up your cheap simple shooting booth

and even using your phone camera will produce nice result (but i still recommend you to use proper PnS camera at least)

setup is something like this using 2 table lights, 1 DIY diffuser and 1 white card/board/styrofoam (to bounce the light and reducing shadows)
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

the diffuser are made from cardboard box and the filter are made from tracing paper
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

do note if you only have phone camera to shoot with unproper lighting, you might lose points even that how nice you finish your kit.... if you picture are unclear and blur

so do take some effort borrowing proper camera or go to ICW to snap your photos

...also i keep reminding this, its good to have a picture with just one color background
i saw some pictures here with white upper background but below is black, pls try to use just one color
