Battery life always better on all the ICS roms I have tested by at least 20-30%

That means no full root
Full root means you can delete, amend n add in additional files in /system folder

you're using Kaiten Mail for POP, IMAP or Exchange? If exchange mind sharing your setting as under the username field, do you just enter your corporate username or with company\username as well?

I restore to gb rom as I need to backup my gb rom first. So I format it from my gb rom. I cannot just copy the previous backup from the other sdcard as it will fail to restore as signature id is different between cards

You will see the sdcard info under the info listing. Take out the card n you will see blank. You won't see the ext card listed

Copy these rom files to ext sdcard will do

Your nandroid backup have a builtin ID of your ext SDcard. You will get a MD5SUM error if you try to restore it. This is what I have learned from my ex SGS II and Dell Streak . I supposed it is the same in the Galaxy Note
As the GB rom backup is critical for me., I need a backup of it on my new SDcard. So no choice but to restore it first and back it up again on the new card

Actually no point keeping any ICS rom backup as after restore you will lose full root - you need to download Superuser app again run Mobile Odin flash LP5 kernel to get it back properly but without full root. Good only for emergency purposes. I have talk about this in my blog:

I failed to restore all my previous nandroid backups while on my previous SGS II and Dell Streak due to mid5sum error. Anyway is good if you can restore it back. Rather than risking it, I just spend another 15 mins to backup it on the new card

ALL ICS roms on LP5/LP6 if you restored it you will lose full root . I have tested so far on all the ICS roms ( LP5/LP6) . This is because firstly to restore you need to flash Abyss kernel - this kernel is not compatible with LP5/LP6 roms. You can only use it to restore but you cannot boot back restored rom while Abyss kernel is active. Only option is to flash the nearest LP1 kernel to reboot the restored ICS rom. This will cause you to lose full root.

Infact Midnote developer advised one not even to consider restoring but flash again from base one

Restore gb rom you will not lose root
Why are you worried since everything seems OK
Try flash any of the stunner transition. If you can flash it successfully your root is OK. Look for those transitions in his post no 2 by tremone

There is no cwm for lp6 yet. You can choose to flash a lp6 kernel (zimage file) from mobile Odin but you will lose cwm recovery. You get back stock recovery
To get back cwm recovery use mobile Odin n flash back lp5 kernel ( zimage file )

There is NO 3rd party kernel available yet for LP5. Use the default kernel
And don't ever try to flash any GB kernels - it will hang your phone

Than do not upgrade the kernel to LP6. In case of emergency and your phone failed to boot, there is no way you can boot to CWM recovery and restore or flash any roms
Your only choice would be to reflash new rom using download mode if you cannot successfully boot back from stock recovery

What was your starting rom flashing this
When you see updating - it looks like stuck for short while , the progress bar showing up to about 20% than looks like freeze. Don't worry , wait about 1 -2 mins it will auto complete without showing the completion of the progress bar

You said it hang while installing but now you are already on Stunner 1.4.19 ?

He will lose full root if he goes back to original ics rom as in midst of installation any disruption will affect kernel files
