Thanks for the reply, i also do some sit up and push up ( on my knees.. hehehe) normal ( 3 sets of 8 time)  ... but i feel very tiring after that and my muscles is aching.... normally i do this after cycling ( 8 sec sprint, 12 sec rest, tension 5) for 30 minutes , is it sufficient for beginner???

So for the compound training, i see that most of it impossible for me to do, hehehe ( coz of equipment and strength) coz afraid of effecting my joints. is there any other way... coz i cant afford to go gym coz of time.

What should i have for resistance training or comound training at home??

Thanks.. super beginner hehe. just realize i'm too big to enjoy my life icon_question.gif

Push Ups are good but it's not really resistance training. You only bench about 60% of your weight when you do push ups. I suggest you need to work more on your strength if you get tired after 8 reps of pushups. As for sit ups I'm not a big fan of it. You need to go to a gym and do some strength training to build some muscles.

I am 41 yrs old. I used to be much bigger and heavier (78kgs to be exact), as I was into bodybuilding. However I decided to cut down since I'm not that tall and I don't really look being too big, I am only 5'5" (165cm). Then I stopped going to the gym for about 7 years due to work, getting married, having kid and family commitments.

Recently, I started going back to the gym again. I signed up with one of the fitness center in March and started working out again end of March.

This is me now, still 41 but going 42 soon in about 6 months time. My current weight is around +/-56kgs. Sadly, I haven't grown taller.

Losing weight is easy, but maintaining and keeping the ideal weight is hard.

I didn't concentrate too much on losing weight, as I didn't want to have a short term goal only. I wanted an effective way on a long term basis.

These are strictly based on my personal activities and the results may varies from each individuals. I am basically sharing my personal experiences.

1. Having the Determination to achieve what you want, on a long term basis
2. Eat right, eat slow. Chew, chew & chew... Don't rush the food, down your throat. Eat 5-6 smaller portion meals, rather than big meals. Don't starve yourself...
3. Exercise on a regular basis (it can be working out in the gym, running, walking, cycling & etc).
4. Sleep... Get enough and proper rest.
5. Never Give Up!

I tried a medication called Duromine to loose weight and to my surprise - I lost 4kg in 1 month's time ! Sorry to say that I am too lazy to exercise and have no will power to stick to a diet on my own. I would advise anyone intending to lose some quick pounds to seek out a doctor for the prescription

I have a cousin who took this duromine for weight loss. And yes she did manage to lost some weight but when she stop taking the meds her weight increase more than before.

Hello there,

I've tried insanity before when I was a lot more heavier than I am today.

For me that time, it was one hell of a workout. It pushed me to my limits in ways you can never imagine.
I've tried other workout regimes before but Insanity introduced me to new ways I never thought of moving my muscles before, all in the comfort of my own home.Of course, by a couple of weeks later I gave up and stopped entirely. It deserves the name "Insanity" I tell you.

From my experience, which is very subjective, no I would not recommend it if you are overweight cause it takes a whole lot of determination and perseverance to complete the entire course. For a normal guy trying to get fit then yeah go for it.

Hellooos..

I'm 21 years old and about a year ago, I was 75kg. I went overseas and i naturally lost about 12 kgs through cycling and good dieting. I've been back for 4 months now and my weight has more or less mantained as it is. However, I've got this problem with my weight coz it's constantly yoyo-ing. Meaning it fluctuates. I measure like every 2 weeks or so and sometimes I can be 65kg in this week and be like 62kg in the other.

I haven't done any exercise since I came back from overseas until the past month where I picked up jogging. Now I go about 6 days a week for about an hour or so around.. I'm guessing 8km/h? I'm not really sure. And through the past month, nothing much has changed. Weight as i've said, fluctuates. Inches hasn't changed much. Maybe as much as 1/2 an inch only?

The main reason I go jogging is because I made a promise to my dog to bring him out more often than I did before. So I'd hope that if anyone has suggestions to what I should do, could include the activities which I can do it with my dog. >.<

Guys.. just wanna get some advices from you guys that know how to train lose weight and gain muscles..
Not sure whether is this the right section though..

Anyway, I'm a male. Weight and height is unknown as I have not measured in years.. blush.gif
So now I look like kinda fat-ish like this

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Pinjam ppl's pic tongue.gif ( Sorry bro )

And I wanna be like from that to a lean shape.. at least with abs that are obvious enough and not under my belly fats and also nice biceps, triceps and chest muscle.

I can't afford to go to gym..

So I just workout/exercise from home.

What I do is:

1) skipping rope - 20 to 30 minutes.. depending on how tired I am on that day
2) sit ups, and some other abs exercise where I lift my arms and touch my leg.. making my body into an U shape, and planking as well.. not like those lie on the floor flat. but my body is in the air except elbows and feets
3) more skipping rope like a short burst of quick repetitions.
4) burpees - 10
5) push ups - 30
6) bicep curls - 30 each hand.. weight unknown as I use stacks of old books ( around 6-8 kg I guess? )
7) tricep extension - 15 ( same stack of books )
8) skipping rope for another 10 minutes - slow and fast burst
Did this workouts every 2 days once.
My diet:
-Breakfast-
Sometimes bread with margerine/ Instant oats ( nesvita ) and biscuits

-Lunch-
White rice with chicken/meat/fish and veges

-dinner-
white rice with chicken/meat/ fish and veges as well

I've cut down on amount of rice intake and increased my meat and veges intake.

What I wanna achieve is like this
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

My question is; am I doing the right thing?
My waist measurement did cut down by 1/2 inch. So I'm guessing is good.
Advices pls icon_question.gif

hi! ok here is my suggestion...

1. Workout with free weight (such as dumbbell, ball and body weight - push up, pull up, squat etc) is good to strength your muscle, but not to lift much weight since you want a lean body. maybe u can use 6-10kg dumbbell only.

2. Cardio training is good for warm up and increase your metabolism. Set your cardio machine at least 500kcal target. Then you go for free weight training.

3. Always do your training in circuit. Such as;

a) push up x10 + squat x15 + abs crunch x20 -- repeat 3 reps for all this.. (just example..)

4. Manage your meals. Take not more than 35g carbs in a day. Should take more protein foods such as meat, lamb, chicken, etc.. supplement is good for you to manage your meals.. ;-)

Bad advices.

1. Do you think that squatting using 6-10 kg dumbbell is enough to do work the targeted muscle? No man. And doing 100 kg squats ain't giving you a huge body by accident.

2. Cardio won't increase your metabolism. It helps to burn fat but will not increase your metabolism. In fact, doing excessive cardio does reduce your metabolism. And cardio before weight is a hell no, moreover after burning 500 kcal calorie. How long does it takes to burn 500 kcal? Then do weight training? doh.gif
