Hey guys, I'm looking to buy a new laptop. I travel quite abit for work but I still want to be able to play some games in my free time. I'm looking to get the laptop in 2-3 weeks time.
1. Preferred Brand : Any (Ivy Bridge) 2. Budget : RM 4-6k 3. Usage: Gaming (dota2, diablo3, wow), engineering programs (hysys, autocad) 4. Preferred laptop/screen size : 14-15.6"
These are the laptops that I have been considering:
Asus G55VW 15.6" GT660M Asus N56VZ 15.6" GT650M Alienware M14x 14" GT650M Inspiron 14/15r HD7730M Ideapad y480 GT660M Ideapad y580 GT660M Samsung 550p 15" GT650M HPdv6 quad 15.6" GT650M Msi ge60 15.6" GT650M Msi gt60 15.6" GT670M
As there are too many choices I was hoping someone could help me narrow them down. Thanks!

Added on May 15, 2012, 1:02 ama lot of model you listed out not yet available in Malaysia [/quote] I believe the Samsung and ideapads are not out yet but the rest should be? I think I am reducing my choices to probably the asus G55 or MSI laptops

QUOTE(devour @ May 15 2012, 05:42 PM) Ideapad y480 GT660M Ideapad y580 GT660M Samsung 550p 15" GT650M HPdv6 quad 15.6" GT650M Asus N56VZ 15.6" GT650M above model you could not found in malaysia at the moment *Msi ge60 15.6" GT650M Msi gt60 15.6" GT670M msi not sure, didt follow track on their product line - if wan asus, g55vw should be sweet laptop I'm actually not based in Malaysia. I'm in Australia so can get some of those models if order online. But laptop prices there are more expensive. I will be going to Malaysia for work next week so I was thinking I can just buy one while I'm there. Any bad reviews on the asus g55 or msi ge/gt60?

From what I have found out so far:
Asus G55VW i7 3610 15.6" 1080p 2gb GTX660M 1tb hdd 5400rpm 8gb ram RM3860
Msi GE60 i7 3610 15.6" 1080p 2gb GT650M 750gb hdd 7200rpm 8gb ram Gaming mouse n pad + backpack RM4399
Msi GT60 i7 3610 15.6" 1080p 3gb GTX670M 750gb hdd 7200rpm 8gb ram Gaming mouse + backpack Siberia v2 headset Backlit keyboard RM5899
In this case the msi ge60 would not be worth it. Definitely the asus g55 better value. But the msi gt60 with the gtx670m is so tempting!

QUOTE(alenn @ May 16 2012, 06:23 PM) regarding the y580, called up a lot of shops here all haven't got stock yet, still have to wait two to three more weeks after the pc show they said. For the price, all said don't know, but there's a gal told me that it might be in between SGD1599 and SGD1699. If Malaysia selling @ RM3000+-, definitely will buy in Msia XD US priced @ USD899 only ~ RM2697! source: http://gdgt.com/lenovo/ideapad/y580/specs/I can say for a fact that the laptop will not cost below RM3.5k. The gtx660m will be an option addon which will probably cost an extra 1-2k Ontop of base price of RM2700. Also due to the relatively thin build of the laptop and the light weight (it's only 2.7kg compared to asus g55 3.8kg) there will be insufficient cooling to support the more powerful graphics card. If u read up online. Alot of ppl have the same ideas.
