hi sifu

now i stuck with these two laptop

M5-481TG-53316G12, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT640M LE (28nm Kepler) + 128GB SSD@RM2899, 6GB, W7HP

Envy4-1043TX/1053TX, i5-3317U + AMD HD7670M + 32GB SSD + 500GB HDD(5400rpm)@RM2599[Beats][1.75kg], 4GB, W7HP

may i know which one more worth to get?
acer m5 is more expensive but provide better graphic card and 128GB SSD whereas hp envy 4 is cheaper with better speaker i guess..

my primary usage is to watch HD movies, medium gaming and some programming

is there much difference in term of performance between Nvidia GT640M LE and AMD HD7670M?

thanks smile.gif
*
Its a tough choice. Nvidia GT640M LE performs slightly better than AMD HD7670M.
Overall, M5 performs better than Envy 4 with the larger SSD and GPU. But Envy 4 have better audio system and larger HDD.

Its up to you which you would prefer smile.gif

Hello all sifus, appreciate some advice here.

I'm a gamer and uses a desktop for that. Gaming laptop that interests me are mostly above 2.7kg. I have no problem deciding what to buy (if i want to buy) in that category. However...

Recently I found the need to bring a laptop to work, mainly for power point presentation & email access. Needs to be lightweight, can do office work, no need fancy sound or music or games, as I have a desktop for that.

1. Preferred Brand: Anything
2. Budget: <RM2000 (best) - RM2200 (comfortable) - RM2600 (limit)
3. Usage: MS Office & Email, output for projectors. Light weight a must. No need fancy audio/video.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 13 - 14"

Thanks in advance for your consideration and advice!
*
Then I guess ultrabook is suitable for you. Can try these:

Acer
[Ultrabook] Aspire S3-391-32374G34, i3-2377U +Intel HD4000 + 32GB SSD+ 320GB HDD@RM1749, 4GB, W7HB

Lenovo
[Ultrabook] U310, i3-3217M + Intel HD4000@RM1999, 4GB, 320GB(5400rpm), W7HB (32-bit); colors: Grey/Pink

HP
[Ultrabook] Envy 4, i3-2367M + Intel HD3000@RM1999, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HP
[Ultrabook] Envy 4, i3-2367M + Intel HD3000 + (500GB + 32SSD)@RM2199, 4GB, W7HP

Toshiba
Satellite L840-1000, i3-2350M + Intel HD3000@RM1599[2.12kg], 2GB, 640GB, W7HP

The Asus N56VZ is new compared to the old HP dv6 that you mentioned.
Overall, the performance will be better, processor included.

There is also new HP dv6 being introduced that have better specs.

Most 15 inch laptop are 15.6". There are SSD+HDD combination usually found in ultrabooks or some of the 15.6" laptops.
In the case of ultrabooks, they are not as suitable for gaming as compared to normal laptops.
So it depends whether your gaming is heavy on graphics.

For some 14" ultrabooks:

Acer
[Ultrabook] M5-481TG-53316G12, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT640M LE (28nm Kepler) + 128GB SSD@RM2899, 6GB, W7HP

The Inspiron 13z is your average laptop with basic GPU. Its a little old and might not handle your games so well depending on what games you are playing.

Its hard to recommend without an estimated budget nod.gif

I'm getting a new laptop soon. Studying in KL now but will be leaving for UK in another 1.5 years. I wanted a Asus A53TK but my parents said it's not good enough so yea.

Brand: No Acer
Budget: 2k-3k. I can afford a 4k laptop but if only it is necessary.
Usage: Usual stuffs. I'm not hardcore gamer. A casual one I suppose but I'm planning to use this new laptop to run games like GTA 4 and the upcoming Hitman Absolution.
Screen Size: Prefer 15 inch but if there are no better options, I can settle for a 14 inch.

I'm giving priorities to laptops with international warranty, Dell and Asus in particular. Do other brands offer good international warranty?

AMD Llano (and maybe Trinity)... Are they good enough for my type of gaming?
*
What does your parents mean when they said its not good enough?

Are you looking for laptops with AMD Llano/Trinity?
What about Intel?

Hi Fellas,

I'm looking for a laptop for business use. I will also be using it for some gaming like maybe SC2 and Call of Duty, but not serious gaming. What I'm looking for is a laptop that is sturdy, shock resistant, spill resistant and has decent battery life (around 3 hours is good enough), with 14 inch screen.

I was initially looking at the Asus A43SM models as a sales person recommended it as versatile. The laptop looks sturdy enough, but the hinges look kind of fragile, and I've seen more than a few laptops with broken hinges already. But if any of you have feedback on the A43SMs, I'm all ears smile.gif

Next up are the Lenovos, Y480 and Z480. They're both really sweet with 3rd gen Core i's, but might not have the sturdy and durable design I'm looking for. The Thinkpads are out of my budget.

Then there's the Dell Latitude E5420, it's got all that, and a 180 degree screen, but has a 2nd gen Core i5 processor, and just a built-in vid card sad.gif
Any recommendation from you guys out there? My budget is approximately RM2.5k
*
You can try these:

Acer
V3-471G-53214G75g, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT630M@RM2299, 4GB, 750GB

Dell
Inspiron 14R, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT630M@RM1999[2.38kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm)
Inspiron 14R (Special Edition), i5-3210M + Nvidia GT640M(28nm Kepler)@RM2199[2.38kg], 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm); backlit keyboard optional

These fall under your budget and with decent GPU for gaming though I'm not sure whether they are sturdy enough for you. Can try and look see smile.gif

I've seen the Acer V3 Olympic edition, *almost* bought it last weekend. It was a series of unfortunate and unusual events. First my wallet got stolen, then ok nvm. I got another friend to use her credit card, and for some reason the card didn't work. So I take it as a sign that I shouldn't be getting it.
If I am not mistaken the 14R you are referring to is the 5420. I was going for it, then I realized the Inspiron are economy models, I need more durability than that, like a Vostro. Specs are decent for both laptops though.
*
It definitely is a series of unfortunate event to the point where its unusual enough hmm.gif

Dell Vostro are good solid laptops but their CPU is of older generation and the GPU will not be able to handle much games except for facebook games tongue.gif

Pavilion Dv4, -5114TX, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT630M@RM2399[Beats], 4GB, 750GB(7200rpm), W7HP

Else there's not much choices.. you can try to go for the V3 again with extra caution sweat.gif

Sorry for not being clear enough. What they meant was 1.6k=cheap=not good...

But I'm over that now. Looking at laptops with Intel Processors. I heard Ivy Bridge runs at higher temperature than Sandy Bridge. Is that true? Heat is a very big concern to me. I'm currently looking at Dell Inspiron 14R SE and HP dv6 i7 7690m XT. I don't want a Asus N56 because I'm not really fond of it's design. Any better recommendation? 640M vs 7690MXT, is the difference really noticeable?  smile.gif

True but not entirely. IB runs slightly higher compared to SB.This is comparing relatively so no worries about the temperature nod.gif

Both are good laptops but HP dv6 is abit older and there will be new dv6 laptops to be introduced.

Can try these 15":

Asus
N55Sl-S2064v, i5-2450M + Nvidia GT635M + (1600x900)@RM2899[Bang & Olufsen], 4GB, 750GB(5400rpm)
N56Vz-S3088V, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT650M@RM2699[Bang&Olufsen], 4GB, 750GB, W7HP, subwoofer and backpack

Dell
Inspiron 15R (Special Edition), i7-3612QM + AMD HD7730M@RM2799, 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm); backlit keyboard optional
Inspiron 15R (Special Edition), i7-3612QM + AMD HD7730M + (1920x1080; anti-glare) + 32GB SSD + 1TB HDD(5400rpm)@RM3199, 8GB,backlit keyboard optional

For your usage, an i3/i5 will be sufficient. As i7 will generate more heat and you're not going to be fully utilising it.
