Please read this carefully. It's not the usual yada yada.

This is an open debate, everyone is allowed to post here as long the statement is constructive. In other words, please use some points to support your choice instead of mentioning the name of RSS reader/news aggregator alone.

This poll is intended to gather comments on the most common RSS reader/news aggregator, rather than mentioning each and every RSS reader/news aggregator in the market; Thus, please do not post something like "How about <insert anything that is not in the list> ? " There is always a choice called "Others (Please State)"

Your choice can be judged from either the cost, effeciency, accuracy, memory consumption, or GUI of the RSS reader/news aggregator. You are more than welcome to contribute if you have other criteria to judge the RSS reader/news aggregator.

This thread will be archived at Essential Reviews and Guides forum when the timeframe for this poll ends (1st January 2006) for future reference. The winner of this poll will be given "LYN First Choice Award" in the Common Software Links thread to reflect its popularity among LYN forumers.

Opera built-in RSS reader is the best I have seen. It display rich contents properly, does not slow down if you have thousands of entries in the feeds (unlike many of the others listed above) and has a good user interface.

I've tried Sharp Reader, RSSReader, the Sage extension (and a few more other extensions), RSSBandit and FeedReader. None of them is as good as Opera RSS reader. Most of them chokes the system if you doesn't prune your feeds (which I usually didn't do). Only Opera can handle feeds with thousands of unpruned feeds.

Well, I guess you can't really call it a newsreader, but I use
GeoShell + GeoDeskText plugin . So it's not a stand-alone newsreader, but it can read newsfeeds through that plugin.

It basically gets the feed and displays it like its part background on my desktop. From there I can doubleclick on the title of the feed item to open it.

Probably not practical for all, but I do use it to show BBC&CNN RSS newsheadlines feeds. In that case, i get news pretty fast since I look at my desktop enough. I find that convenient...

Voted for others. I use Bloglines which is a web based RSS aggregator. I find it more convenient as compared to software based ones since I can check the RSS feeds I subscribe to regardless of whether I'm on my own PC or public place etc. smile.gif

Only thing is that the intervals for feed updates can't be set manually and recently have had some service issues (minor ones).
