Nowaday Headunit power in RMS is quite high, 40-60rms.
Does it sufficient enough.. It is equal to a typical 4 channels amp power..

Pls enlighten me

read somewhere its prob like 10-15 watts at most for HU. but the difference is huge between HU built in amp and aftermarket 2ch or 4ch amps. just look at the size difference. Aftermarket amps are huge and heavy.
The immediate difference is the sound. from HU alone, yes u can get nice sound, but your component speakers are made to receive at least 50 watts. so using HU alone is not doing it any justice.
How i know? i changed my HU and components last year. sounded much better than stock. this year, i added in amplifier and soundproof. Midbass from components sounded much stronger, higher frequencies sounded much clearer from tweeter, no more ear piercing sound.
In short, amplifier gives ur speaker the ideal power to perform, and sends a strong, clear signal from HU to speakers, thus producing the best sound a particular speaker can produce.

the real difference is to compare the power supply circuit/amplifying stage between both amps...

pick up any amplifier, good ones, open up the cover and look at the circuit board... you almost instantly notice 2 things, bigger coils, bigger cap banks.

pick up any HU, good ones, even double DINs, open up the cover and look at the circuit board. You could also instantly notice something, where could you put such a big coil or big cap banks inside there?

so yes, HU could give power up to 15-17w rms... there are amps that gives that kind of power or less as well... but an amp always performs better than the integrated ones.

and i am just talking about the power supply, i havent touch on the amplifying stage. so go figure...

40-60w is usually max power of the hu. so far i have not encountered any hu with such high power rms. the highest i ever owned is a panasonic hu which is 70w x 4 max. think the rms shud be abt 20 - 22w.

get a good HU aka highend ones, the sound reproduction will be much better without amplifier (mostly of those below 1k). Theoretically, more component = more conversion = increase chances of distortion. the lesser the better =)

There is power and there is also sound quality. Can deliver the power does not mean it does not distort the frequency response.

The HU is like a singer..if he of she has a sore throat, no matter how expensive the amplifier or cables...the sound wont be good...chicken will sound like a duck! So if the singer has an excellent voice, plus with good amp / cables and compliment with good sets of speakers...everyone will be happy listening to the sound..its worth to pay for that expensive ticket!
