Just test drove earlier (If anyone saw a red Preve zipping through the Connaught highway at highspeed around 4-5pm, that's probably me tongue.gif )

I think izputra has covered most of what I thought, I just like to add my piece re the engine performance.

Compared to my FLX SE, the 1k-2k RPM (before the turbo kicks in) is really sluggish, as if the 1.6 NA is struggling to move the car. The CVT is probably to blame, but nonetheless it's there.

As said before, after 2k the turbo kicks in and that's where the car really starts to move. In D gear, the transition is smooth, almost unnoticable, BUT once you hit 2K and decides to release the pedal, the car jerks pretty hard due to engine braking, this could affect driving comfort in stop and go traffic. Also, the CVT seems reluctant to go to higher RPM, I would press the pedal hard and somehow the car decides to stay at 2k RPM, I was like WTFISTHISSHIT.

The real fun is when you use the paddle shifters. In this mode the cars feel utterly alive and so much more responsive than in D. Whereas in D the RPM rises very slow, with the paddle shifters you can simply downshift and off it goes. This part was by far the most satisfying part of the test drive.

I pity those who bought the IAFM+ variant, because they too will encounter the same sluggish response from 1k-2k RPM, except the 205Nm of torque will never come, ever. So if you are going for the IAFM+, please do yourself a favour and get the manual instead.

Also, unbelievably, the dashboard rattled halfway through my test drive doh.gif

90% of my test drive, the car was in S mode, didn't really try out the D. Dissapointed in the paddle shifters. Spoiled by the feel of a DSG's pedal shifter i guess sweat.gif

The CVT is kinda uncomfortable to drive in stop and go traffic, but so is a 6 speed DSG. It's only a matter of getting used to it, unless you wanna stick with a 4AT.

Is it because of the jerk or engine braking you mention earlier? I'm curious about this.

Jerk because of engine braking, at low speed. But unlike the FLX, when moving from standstill there is little to no jerk, ironically because of the sluggish response.

ouch. that hurts. oh well, best not to get test drive units as those test-drivers all really hantam the car 99 sweat.gif

You were there with a couple of friends right? I mean the guy test driving the car before you was a chinese guy wearing uniform while his SA is the Indian fella? If yes then that was me laugh.gif

the indian fella not really that knowledgeable. asked him how to change to radio as it was in GPS mode and he doesn't know doh.gif asked him how to open the boot via the remote and he said theres no such feature doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif should've asked the girl to serve me instead laugh.gif

so what you think of the car after the short drive? laugh.gif

I wrote most of my impressions in my blog but in a nutshell:-

Likes:
- Auto folding side mirrors
- Push start button
- Rear fog lights
- ESP (even though didn't managed to test it)
- Superior NVH
- Good handling
- Excellent braking power
- Great rear legroom and headroom
- Multi Info Display

Dislikes:
- Sluggish engine below 2,000rpm
- CVT which hampers the full potential of 205Nm
- Heavy car
- Poor welding on the door/window frame (the pics I posted shows how inconsistent the welding is on all models)
- Visible lock tights everywhere (I checked the Exora Bold and it also has the same amount of lock tights but because the cable is more recessed in the bonnet, it's not as obvious as the Preve's which stares at you like a sore thumb)

All in all, I would buy it if I want the safety (no other car below RM75k offering 4 airbags, ESP) and cabin space. I won't buy it for the performance or handling (I still feel the Inspira is more fun)

Well in my experience my CVT jerks during traffic jam as well. When releasing the acceleration due to engine braking, and when moving from standstill because of enhanced after remap response.

Initially less lag because the response is like sheet here too.

Hence, unless you get a throttle controller to set for Traffic (aka, lower throttle response); or get an engine with a low torque low end, most CVTs will jerk in jams.

Insight doesn't have this jerk due to sheety low end as well.

You keep on saying that lol. I need to test myself but from pictures I can say the back seats are definitely more spacious in the Inspira - but we have sheetier boot space (unmodded with space saver spare tyre of course. Even modded I still think we'd lose). Give and take, fair trade I guess.

Will test the Preve as soon as Kuala Lipis/Raub gets a test unit.
