try to google what the meaning of dormancy...but nothing related with telco,  biggrin.gif

Phones Today became more and more sophisticated. They are no longer devices for placing calls or for sending and receiving text messages only. They have become more “smart” and feature packed. A phone is now a PDA, a media player, an internet device and much more which is entirely different from what it was like say 10 years ago. The advancement of the cell phone technology has caused these devices to demand more power. Sadly (and this is my personal opinion) the advancement in Battery technology has not been on par with progress in cellular devices, standards and networks. This is where new network technologies like Fast Dormancy come in play in an attempt to optimize battery live of our power hungry Devices.

What is Fast Dormancy? In simple terms its a device feature that enables mobile devices to notify the cellular base stations when the radio resource allocated to the device is no longer in use, so that the radio resource could be immediately released other than waiting for a timeout event. For instance lets say you are browsing a webpage using your cellular data plan. You stop at a certain webpage (for example to read this article) the connection is maintained and the device will be registered on the network even if data isn’t received or transmitted (always on) and will remain like that until a timeout event is invoked (as per the network rules as to how much time to wait before connection is terminated due to idle timeout). During this time the device’s battery will be drained needlessly in addition to increased congestion on the cellular network due to numerous idle connections. From a device perspective radio power consumes battery so employing fast dormancy should save battery power and increase its life. This also has an advantage to networks as it reduces congestion. But This doesn’t come without a major disadvantage to the very same cellular networks and operators. The making and breaking of the connections increases the signaling traffic and wastes network resources. The workaround to this was done by Nokia Siemens in collaboration with Qualcomm to employ NCFD or Network Control Fast Dormancy in which the device is put on a battery saving idle state while maintaining its network identity without the need to establish a new connection and request a new identity for the device on the network.

How does this affect/benefit us Android Users? Well, too many factors come into play here. The most important being your operator’s network being optimized for Fast Dormancy. In addition each device manufacturer has its own proprietary approach to deploy Fast Dormancy (and well all know proprietary and android don’t play nice regarding third party development). Also the NFCD and other carrier enforced approaches will be designed to override any individual device settings that may ignore the Network Controls. Finally Fast dormancy benefits those who use cellular Data, its of little or no value to those who use wifi for internet and other related services.

Thanks uncle! Not too clear with what you said, I dont need to flash 2.1 and 3.0 rite.. Straight to 3.1? But i cant seem to find the 3.1 link O_O
*
Did you bother to read in first place. Read his instructions and last point 14:
14. Download the cumulative zip "MIDNOTE3.1" update and install it from CWM recovery...it contains ALL below UPDATES in a single zip file (check MD5 first) : https://docs.google.com/open?id=0BzR...UFJEN3pKdU9Cdw

Get the actual download link from his post ( mine is shortcut )
If you are already on v3.0 - just flash it from recovery

In both Nova and Apex you can always save your settings. Next time you change to another ICS rom, just restore it back and viola all your apps/widgets arrangement will be restored. Only some widgets you might need to place it back manually. Most of my widgets are restored back except beautiful widgets and data counter widget

Does that mean I don't have to turn on my GPS whenever I use google maps on Midnote 3.0 from now on? Or is that a one time in order to successfully install Midnote 3.0?
*
You do that and you will incur lots of data charges and no sane person will want to do that. Why use 3G when you just simply need to activate the GPS. This is for for assisting in initial lockup which is quicker with GPS on

Can i turn off "fast dormancy" in my Galaxy Note? I heard battery life could be prolonged due to this.. is that true? thanks.. smile.gif
*
No point as I don't think any of our telcos has this features

You can try , no harm doing it:

1 - Launch phone, type *#9900#
2 - Disable fast dormancy
3 - Exit
To turn it back on , follow back the same method

That doesn't tell anything
What I mean is this package allow s]you full internet access or restricted as some Digi packages has a separate FB package. You should check back with Digi - there is definitely nothing wrong with your phone since you can access internet and do browsing
RM30 is for how much data - I couldn't find such a package at Digi website

Hi

The software missing sync will transfer all my existing data in Address Book and Ical in my iMac to my new Note?

Is it a free software that i can download from market?

tq...
*
http://www.markspace.com/products/android/...nc-android.html

If you just want to sync with your MAC , this is the BEST software - US$39.95 worth every cent. This software I have been using since the days of Windows Mobile, Blackberry and Androids. I bought every version of it on the different OS platforms.
However with the efficiency of sync direct with Google servers, I no longer use it

I would advise you sync your MAC address Book nad iCalc to your GMail and use your GMail sync down to your phone and is FREE and best fast and efficient

Yes NOVA is still the best for me though it has lesser features than Apex. Anyway those extra features of Apex I never use so it doesn't matter to me

But then my battery reduces from 81% to 40+% when I am sleeping for like 8 hours. Is this a problem? I turned off wifi and enable silent mode. And no application was running that time
*
Definitely rogue app running in background
even with 3g on n active email n fb refreshing overnite my most is 10%. Now averaging 3-5% over 7-8 hours
Check your apps n disable active refresh if you do not need it
Since you are new I will not ask you even to root it n use other methods to manage it better
