You should use lexus, infiniti or acura to represent top level japanese car..

Toyota, honda, daihatsu are meant to be lower level jap makes, so the design are just so so

Exactly my point, your bechmark deliberately put lower end japanese brands to compare with top Korean car brands, which is unfair.

You want to see which country produce better car, better design, and better performance but restrict your comparison by putting lower end at one side and top end at the other side...of course la korean makes seemed a lot better..

If you compare with current top end japanese brands confirm Korean cars cannot compete..

Compare best vs best, not best vs mediocre.

Match the quality, probably.. but surpassing, I really doubt it. The Japanese are very quality-conscious. More importantly, we should be asking, will Proton to be able to match Japanese cars in another 50 years? Honestly, I am wondering what value-added Mahathir is contributing to Proton as its adviser. Or is his salary and fringe benefits merely adding cost to Proton so that we have to pay more for it?

haha , i dont care about proton , i wont buy it .

For those high end car , i still believe japan > korea . Nissan GTR , Lexus etc..

But for those mid range car like camry , sonata , optima , elantra , city , vios which we will see very common on the street ,
japan car are totally losing out of their car design , quality .
Camry & Accord is still acceptable ,
but vios & city seriously i feel it doesnt diffrent with proton which i see all 'plastic plastic' inside the car .

Hi Hunakadoo, is it still true that Japanese cars fetch higher resale value than Korean cars? Me not in touch of the market because I change my car every 15 years, hahaha.

The only korean car that is really selling in malaysia is kia forte, even then the figures are not that impressive. The rest i barely see on the road...sonata only see it once in a blue moon and i live in the klang valley.

The only reason kia forte is selling is cause it's cheap. If a civic 2.0 or kia forte 2.0 sold at same price, would anyone buy the korean? lol.

because you are driving sonata.. haha, got you!!!

It is not easy to surpass Japan especially in automotive industry as they has established a very good brand name and position in the world. No doubt Korean has made a big leap, especially KIA. But it is a way to go if yo catch up Japanese.

As 1 of the forumer said, the reason people get forte because it is cheaper then Civic.

My intuition is telling me Volkswagen is soon gonna to introduce <100k B segment car.

they do alot of surface refinement (like external looks and interior dashboard style), but mechanical wise.. not match japs yet.. sure 165bhp 6 spd auto 2L.. but somewhat similar performance only then those lesser power japs..

while i believe korea car will be rising within this few years .
Sonata & Optima just a starting , somemore new Camry & new Civic really dissapoited a lot consumer ,
which i saw a lot of bad comment about the new car design .

so i can predict that korea car sales will goes up while toyota & honda car sales will drop while camry & civic launch .

The only korean car that is really selling in malaysia is kia forte, even then the figures are not that impressive. The rest i barely see on the road...sonata only see it once in a blue moon and i live in the klang valley.

The only reason kia forte is selling is cause it's cheap. If a civic 2.0 or kia forte 2.0 sold at same price, would anyone buy the korean? lol.
*
kesian, your klang valley must be quite klang..my klang valley quite a lot..

civic and forte same price, probably i will take forte..
other than vroomm, else civic<forte, but not to look down on forte 2.0 engine, i heard it is abang adik with mitsubishi lancer 2.0, same father but different mother yo!

We cannot say Honda copied Merc in this case since car design are getting similar and it's too hard to come out with original design.

We might as well say that Bentley copied Merc or Merc copied Bentley of the twin round headlamps.

we must remember that korean car maker tend to focus more on aesthetic while japanese car tend to balance between exterior, interior & performance

in terms of performance of cos korean cars are far behind japanese cars

They're completely different lar and similar shape headlights in cars are common. You might as well say Proton copied BMW 5er for that headlights.

I owned a NAZA KIA Forte SX.
The reason I bought it is because the specs worth for the price...I can get some of the features offered in premium cars(VW/BMW/MERC) in this car that Civic/Altis don't have, yet the safety of the car is very good, the chassis is really very very tough, compare with Altis/Civic....build quality is much better than the overpricey Toyota n Honda cars(leave Nissan out coz Nissan really give good price too-Sylphy)...
I owned the car since end of May2010...no major problems, service wise is on par with Civic/Altis pricing...Spare part wise is considerable on par too with Civic/Altis(my front 2 absorbers rosak due to drive over tembok while evading front vehicle only cost me 1 set Genuine KIA at RM2xx)
Petrol consumption at full city drive can go up to 390-410km per full tank RON95(1.90)@52L, so i can say at 1.6L heavy car is ald consider very fuel economy car..
B4 i bought this car, i was also browsing Toyota Altis 1.8/Toyota VIOS 1.5 TRD n Honda City/Civic 1.8...quality wise n feature wise, still KIA wins, no nid say design too(even my Toyota die hard fans father also admit it)...
As for resale value, u all always think of the price selling it, but never thought of how much when u bought it at 1st and how much loses when u selling it....
for example :
2002 Sonata vs 2002 Camry
OTR price(2002) : 120k vs. 150k (30k difference)
U saw on the price used car sell in 2011 : 25k vs. 50k (25k difference)
The loses of the cost compare 2002-2011 : 95k vs. 100k (5k difference)
ended up, acually Sonata got the better value than camry...juz that ppl see camry 2nd hand is 50k, means better resale value...but when they bought the car new @ 150k...
So, please think of what is really meaning behind 'Resale Value' b4 posting on resale value stuffs...

Added on July 27, 2012, 10:23 amOh, if u all wan compare high-end/premium car between Lexus/Acura n Hyundai/KIA
Plz do vs Lexus /Acura models vs. KIA K7/K9 and Hyundai Grandeur/Equus...
