I have a 1+year old 2.5 CBU. In a nut shell, one of the better cars I have driven and owned.
Fuel consumption
Averaging about 10.5l/100km on almost pure city driving using RON95. This is defined as on LDP during peak hours. Highway will be clocking about 8l/100km. I-stop is usually on, but take note that i-stop only works well if you have lowest aircond blower setting and above 24C. You should be able to stop for about a min or two. Personally I hate the i-stop. Do I find a difference between RON95 and 97? Not really, perhaps a bit smoother during acceleration but consumption seems similar in my heavy city driving. You decide if it is worth the RM0.30/l difference.
Ngek-ngek sound
Lower arm bush. Yes, even my CBU has that. Changed at SC under warranty. No more sound for a couple of months now.
Battery/i-stop
From what I was told the battery for the 2.5 is more than RM1k. So do take note. I understand that if the battery dies within warranty it will be replaced as a claim.
Sound system
Bose. Not bad, but not superbly great. One annoying thing is that if you are streaming from thumbdrive, the HU reset back to first song every time you start the car. I use bluetooth instead.
Handling
Doesnt handle like an SUV, more like a sedan.
Otherwise, really no complaints about the car. Still as quiet as day 1, perhaps its CBU. My brother who owns a 2.0 CKD says its rattling all over. And his fuel consumption is slightly better than mine.
Good post. We have a 2.5 CBU as well. Similarly, most 2.0 CKD users also mentioned about rattling sound in the car. Coincidentally we met a CX5 user who is actually working as a QAQC manager in the Mazda Kulim plant up-north. He mentioned the quality control is not very good although the Japanese will oversee the production, but in the end it's the lower level people who manage and work on the car. I reckon the Mazda 3 CKD would likely show more rattling sound than the CBU model.
So far there is no "ngek ngek" sound from the suspension yet. The Bose sound system is very clean or neutral sounding but lacking in bass. It doesn't have the more coloured sound of the Sony system in the Ford Focus which emphasis more on midrange and bass. The Bose sound system is leaner sounding as opposed to the warmer sound of the Sony system.
Handling is good and may be comparable to a Japanese sedan, but certainly not comparable to the better-handling sedans such as the Ford Focus when it comes to handling especially in the corners or bends due to the higher centre of gravity of the CX5.
