Based on 2 lenses given above. Anyone uses the Sigma lens before..? if yes.. mind to do some comparison..? prices for both are about the same..

that is why i would like to see how it goes. i dont mind if its not a straight f2.8 all focal..

just need some opinion on the sigma lens.. it seems like not much people are using this. nod.gif

Hi TS,

Why not combine your 2 thread in 1? hmm... I would I choose 17-50mm without VC, is sharper and constant 2.8+cheaper

went to flickr to find out some opinions about this Sigma.. most of them said this is a step up lens from the kit lens.. but no1 comparing it with Tamron.. DigitalRev got text review.. but no conclusion... stupid review.. doh.gif

hmmm I never use sigma before but my friend using it and I using 27-75 tamron. He mentioned that auto focus is faster than tamron however the sharpness and color, the tammy win hand down but I hate tamron for the AF point when I worked for event in low light. But that all is history when I still in dark side(Nikon). Now I am Canon but I don't buy third party lens for 1 reason. The QC is not as good as canon espcially backfocus problem. Why u never consider few another lens like 15-85 canon, 17-50 canon L, etc that almost same price. I using 17-40L before, it a great lens and 2nd hnd value might drop below 1.7k Seriously... Weather sealed summore.. biggrin.gif

1 got the range the other has the f2.8 aperture
if you want the range then can consider the Canon 15-85 IS USM
15 mm is much more fun than 17! haha

I use Tamron 17-50mm VC. I know I have no regrets having it because I never returned back to my kit lens. Its a real performing value lens.

On the Sigma 17-70mm... Not common when there's also a Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 OS. There are reviews that say Sigma 17-50mm OS is the best in its class that might even beat Canon's 17-55mm. Its more expensive but if you care about getting the best you can try Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 OS. So instead of thinking about Sigma 17-70 take a look at Sigma 17-50!

As for me I won't bother changing from Tamron 17-50 to Sigma 17-50. Tamron satisfies and I probably won't feel much difference if I switch. But I will think about buying upcoming rumored Sigma 24-70 F2 (fixed).
