I wonder, will I experience a delay at US server if my internet line is 4mb? Well, in fact, does 4mb line even helps my gaming experience at all? I am thinking to upgrade my internet connection, and I want to hear you guys opinion about it.

20mbps also will have delay in US, its about the routing bro, faster connection speed won't bring you to anywhere.

I just upgraded last 2 months from 1 to 4MB; does it helps? yes it does; not a big leap but just better.

For CSS; my ping dip from 120 to 80 in a server i constant. In sc2, stuttering and microing my banshit is easier and faster. For me it does helps.

If your area have unifi, go for unifi instead, the unifi have the best ping for consumer value plan, my friends are playing css for 25 or less ping in the same server.

But those are nothing to the joy of 4mb cause the watching movies and downloading games will have a whole new meaning, if you know what i meant.

nah..not really much difference
there is still noticeable delay if u play on US servers. i'm on unifi, & i already experience it first-hand. at least, u can listen to online radio/perform live stream etc etc since u have excess bandwidth left.

just make sure no one is torrenting/heavy downloading, & it should be good to go

most ppl think faster speed = better latency . WHICH IS COMPLETED WRONG .

my 1mb streamyx can be better latency than Unfi 20mb . why . ?

try read here how to get better latency .

I don't really care about the latency. I just want to play non-delay game in SEA server. This is my goal.

I created this thread because I want to know whether 4mb is good enough to have non-delay game in SEA server. Playing NA server with non-delay is suppose a bonus for me.

Also, what's up with that kind of response?

i think TS should really google and study what is latency before asking.

i m on 4mb streamyx b4 my 10mb unifi....
4mb streamyx can play sc2 US well ( not included problematic time)
10mb unifi fine also, but lagging period is quite offen...

this week unify to US is totally SUX up. i basically find something to do rather that lag inside and let ppl owned ...
P/S: if the line is good enu, even 1mb also can play it well i think. (direct connection, no other ppl sharing the line nor application)

wha-?

The delay you get will be the same regardless of whether is unifi or streamyx, the routing is the same!
its not about how much data you can send/receive its which path the data is going through.

If you want no-delay games, play in SEA, else you'd have to move to the States.

by what telecom tell u is yes .

but in reality is NO . latency in Sc2 is not that serious problem - even play in NA.

if u play WOW , rift , SWTOR you will know why latency is important . EVen Unfi user usuing tunneling proxy servies in order to get better latency .

so Unifi > 4mb > 1mb is not alway correct .

dont hope by upgrading your line u will get better latency. end up waste more money.

upgrade for download or streaming ok la . opps sry megaupload is close . no more easy convinient free downloaded warez tongue.gif

if your line lag . CALL THE FUKCING TELECOM AND ASK THEM DO THIER WORK PROPERLY . ASK THEM OPEN THE REPORT AND FOLLOW UP .

dude,

i play a lot sc2 and a terran too, and i just upgraded my line from 1 to 4mb, there is indeed improvement in lag. I can do the banshee micro now in US when it is impossible last time. And i play counter strike source, where the ping is shown on scoreboard, it drops!

i dont know much about how it works, but i just sharing what i know. If you think it is wrong, so be it, i might be hallucination but then it is a good one to have.

many factors include but not limited to:

- your 1MB b/w pipe may be wrongly capped/bad config from tmnut (or in general speak, they f*** up)

- your background applications (eg: voice comms such as ventrilo, streaming, or even windows update or your antivirus update) and your sc2 are using more bw than your 1mbit can cope (do note, 1mbit does not mean tmnut gives you 100% 1mbit)
in the event where bw is not enough, latency will take a big hit

- there are always wikipedia, google, or LYN networking/broadband threads to help you understand more smile.gif

all the above does not change the fact that BW != latency
get it?

the above mentality is similar to:
"I KNOW A BMW IS FASTER THAN A PROTON, I DONT KNOW WHY, BUT IT IS! SO GET A BMW!"

Simple lar. Lets say you drive a BMW and another guy drives a Proton. Then you get on the damn LDP during rush hour.

Grats! You're both stuck traveling at the same speed!

in Msia i guess we can relate bandwith to latency due to the retardedness of TM...
mostly due to the routing which they use...
i think WoW players still remember reconnecting till we get certain IP for better latency lol...

I was one of the lucky few who had access to the 218.111.x.x IP lol.

Until the existance of affordable VPN tunneling service solved the issue altogether.

this is still true . every ip range take different route so we get different latency .

few years back when the proxy tunneling services still not that popular in market. Sometime i need to connect/reconnect over 50 time just to get certain ip range just to play WOW .

another example . when i wathc GOmTv streming . i have to use ip range 175.x.x to get smooth video playback. other ip range suck.

sigh...

Yes. With my 1mb, I experienced a great delay in SEA. This is why I am considering to upgrade my internet line. But of course, I don't know why a simple thread like this somewhat attracted a bunch of arrogant elitists though.

Seriously? Most of us hate Quaz, even those of us who have the misfortune of calling him a friend. However, what he told you is a fact: bandwidth does not equal latency. Ignoring facts and calling someone pathetic is... well, it's even more pathetic.

err you do know that once you apply for Streamyx, you're bound by a 2 year contract and cannot terminate your line before the contract is over?

i thought they got upgrade programs to unifi or something

AFAIK, basically you can upgrade (1mb > 4mb, or screamyx to unifi) anytime/anything you want, so long it's not downgrade

erhmm... i am from ipoh

being the small potato state we are, u better check what is available in your area first by going to TM point and telling them your address. Sometimes, you cant upgrade simply cause there is not enough ports etc. My area also just recently can upgrade to 4mb thus the upgrade.

Anyway, SEA has always been lag free from my experience. You sure there is nothing wrong with ur bandwidth?

upgrade contract = 1 year

u go for an upgrade, sure they can proceed. as long as u do not request for disconnection b4 the period ends, no problem would pop up...

btw,to TS...

ur speedtest result is common for 1mb copper screamyx line...particularly the upload speed.go ahead & use the pingtest.net function & ping those in US area...>300ms? unplayable unless u go & get vpn connection to tunnel those packets... Service Noticeboard in our very own LYN might be able to satisfy ur lust for lag-free gaming tongue.gif

I have tried using lagless proxy on my SC2 with Unifi, theres no difference at all. Playing in SEA still gives the best lag-free experience.
