Hi howiechoo is it okay to do sound deadening on a car first before changing speakers and amp next time? Planning to improve sound isolation and ride first before getting into ICE. notworthy.gif

Why wouldn't it be ok? For all you know after doing the sound deadening your existing system may improve!

Because as I see from videos online the foam sticked on the door panels overlaid all the existing cables. I also dunno what cable is that. doh.gif So if i need to install/change speakers there's no need to remove and damage the foams right? As in the speaker installation won't be affected/obstrusted right? Sorry for the noob question doh.gif sweat.gif

Hi everyone. Just got into ICE recently. I just love music that I've decided to invest some $ on it. My current setup so far is Kenwood KDC - 100U as my HU, Morel Maximo 6.5 component as my front speaker while back speakers remained stock. Planning to upgrade my back speaker to Focal 165 ISC coaxial/Pioneer TS-D1602R/JBL GTO-629 coaxial/ or any other better rated coaxials at that price range. No amps for now. Would need suggestions on what amps to use to drive these back speakers and front components. Doors have been treated with 1 layer of vibration dampening while floors are treated with vibration dampening and basic acoustic foam insulation. Plan to install insulation on doors somewhere in the future. Not planning to install sub at the moment. Perhaps a Underseat sub if I ever change my mind/everything else is done. Not planning to sacrifice space for a sub in the boot. Perodua axia.

Questions.

What amps should I go for these setup? (JBL, Pioneer, Alpine, Polk, Focal?) Budget about 500-1k (I'm open to suggestions for price slightly higher if it's worth the price/performance ratio)
What model should I go for the back coaxials? Is there big differences between Morel Maximo and Tempo series? (I did consider using the same brand for the coaxials as well)

TQ notworthy.gif

Music genre. R&B, classical, any other genres in between... Love emphasis on vocal reproduction, non fatiguing highs, tight quality bass (non boomy).

New to this.. Previously I'm quite crazy over all these audio stuffs, owned a pair of customs and stuffs.. New to this car audio.

Any suggestions on how to get started? I'm driving an honda crz, what's a good budget setup to get started? I listen to primarily EDM, Dj mixes.. More inclined towards bass!
*
IMO the first step would be to do a proper sound deadening before installing the speaker setups. sound deadening the floor and door would be a great start. perhaps components for front and subwoofer with amp? Budget wise in the end is up to you cuz not everyone is willing to spend alot on ICE. Perhaps 2-3k for a start? 1k + for basic sound deadening and another half for basic speaker setup? then u will go on from there... or maybe if u feel that ur speakers are fine for now u can add a subwoofer and an amp and from there only u decide hmm.gif laugh.gif

What is sound deadening? What does it do? Minimum i got to spend 2-3k?
*
minimise the vibrations caused when u have a better sound systems ie speakers in ur car. as u turn up the volume, the door panel will rattle along with the speaker. so adding foam/sound deadening layer will minimise the vibrations and aso reduce some of the exterior noise. Some people said that sound deadening ur car is almost useless and it doesn't bring much difference. Well highly debatable topic. I think you can get better suggestions reading the forums as I myself are not good at this sweat.gif Not many ppl active here nowadays. Of course you can spend less than that. I feel that there is solution for every budget bracket laugh.gif

i wouldn't consider myself knowledgeable. but I have interest and love for music and thus speakers and headphones... but car setup is a totally new game... got to consider road noise, vibrations induced by speakers, etc. cry.gif

After a while reading on this section, should i just save up and go for Pioneer 80 PRS ?

Is it truly worth it ?
*
if u step into 80prs, u are into the high end ICE category already, although there are even higher end ones... if u get into this range, be prepare to spend more on other components if u want to make sure there is no bottleneck performance in ur setup. amps, wiring, components need to match the level of the 80prs performance capabilities or else it's not really worth it. using high end HU but entry level components and amps will not do justice for the 80prs. u will of cuz get nice sound using the high end HU, but the HU is unable to unleash it's full potential due to other entry level components. Just my opinion. More experienced sifus can correct me if I'm wrong. I'm still learning here. notworthy.gif

Im having the same thought too.

Planing to do it one by one.

Just done installing my active sub last month.

So this month either changing the HU or rear door speaker.

Which one u think i should change first ?
*
drool.gif active sub! boot active sub or underseat sub? envy cars with super big boot space laugh.gif y the rear door speaker? front should be the first to be upgraded unless u want ur rear passengers to enjoy quality music first brows.gif if rear vs HU, I'd personally go for HU first. Front wise a better option would be component speakers for better soundstage. Just my 2 cents. icon_rolleyes.gif

Underseat sub.

Tried my friend box sub just too much for me.

I'm using MB Quart component speaker at front.

So i will go for HU this month. Haha.
*
well alot of people love boom boom sub laugh.gif for me quality bass matters more than quantity bass... I think it really depends on the type of subwoofers... high quality subwoofers do produces a really good bass, undistorted while being able to produce deep low bass at high volumes. Usually that type of subwoofer needs a high powered monoblock amp to work. what model of undersub are you using? hmm.gif

MB Quart undersub.

It gives me the feel that i want, a little bit punch of bass instead of flat sound.

Haha.

this version? http://www.mudah.my/ORIGINAL+MB+QUART+8+Ac...52-46201683.htm my priority for now is an amp and further sound deaden my doors. underseat sub perhaps later on laugh.gif

Yeah this one.

Should i need an amp to boost the sound ?

I mean the overall sound.

I wonder. Haha.
*
that depends on how hard core are you into audio. If you're already playing with home audio and headphones/IEMs with amps, chances are you will be only satisfied with an amp to power your speakers in ur car :Dlow grade stock speakers don't benefit much from amps but i think aftermarket speakers do benefit from amps... but difference in terms of what need to consult ICE sifu here d. Like me, I might think that my components and entry lvl HU are already a huge improvement from the stock speakers... but one will not be certain on what improvements an amp will give... especially what amps that bring the best performance out from ur upgraded speakers... One can only listen to the A/B test to know for sure... or any experienced ICE enthusiasts. Ppl like me which are not experienced and do not a much ICE shops in my area only can rely on forums for more insight doh.gif

Personal opinion.. I don't think u really need an amp tho...
It should be sufficient unless u want it to be more powerful lahh... unless u add a monoblock and a woofer tho..
*
laugh.gif powerful is not really my primary aim here though. I am looking for a cleaner sound, fuller and higher detail, a better separation of instruments and beats and perhaps less distortion? perhaps a more defined low mids and mids. Will an amp give these improvements? hmm.gif

Purpose of amp from my understanding it makes things louder...
Unless if u wanna put 6x9 speakers at rear.. then it's advisable to put amp
*
sweat.gif well I'm not sure how loud is loud and I don't dare to turn the volume knob to max to see the max volume. but without amp I find that at around volume 15 only can provide me with the oomph needed to listen to music. That's with loudness and bass boost on to max. hmm.gif I heard that loudness and bass boost also makes the sound not natural and should be remained off if possible. Perhaps the sound could be tuned better with an amp.

Hi everyone! I am interested to change my stock radio head unit to maybe a double DIN one which enables me to connect my iphone or flash drive to play mp3. Not really particular about the brand whether its Kenwood or Pioneer etc. Not sure if there's any mirrorlink-enabled headunits which go below rm1000..Appreciate any recommendations given, thanks  smile.gif

- My ride: Suzuki Swift
- Prefers SQ/SPL/SQL: SQL / no preference
- File format/medium used for my source: mp3 with flash drive or Iphone / mirrorlink or spotify capabilities
- Music genre: Any, no preference
- Budget: 1K (if possible, if not can stretch it to 1k-1.5k)
- Setup type preferences: no preference, just wanting to change head unit only
- Other requirements (if any): Good and neat installation, able to work with steering wheel controls, usb for flash drive / iphone

if you're looking for branded ones then u can go for models like this one. http://www.kenwood.com/my/car/visual_navig...016bt/spec.html
supports airplay
this model from pioneer supports spotify but im not sure about mirroring from ur phone though http://www.pioneer.my/my/products-detail/i...uct=AVH-X2850BT smile.gif if u dont mind other brands there's actually alot of other China/Taiwan brands below 1k that can support such features notworthy.gif
