Was among the first 10 to test drive the only unit available in Kuching. They had only the 1.6 High Spec. I went to the showroom with pretty high expectations due to the sheer amount of publicity and knowing that this car won so many awards in US and some other countries. Left the showroom bloody disappointed.
What really spoilt the driving experience was the lack of torque at low end rpm. Power only comes in at higher rpm. However, when I returned to the showroom only I noticed that it was in Eco mode. Now i wonder how different it would be if the ECO mode was disabled. However, as many forumers have concluded, the 1.6's acceleration is truly sluggish.
The Forte 1.6SX 6 speed provides a much livelier acceleration. With the price of the elantra 1.6HS equalling the Forte 2.0SX, I cannot see how I can recommend this car. The only aspect which the Elantra is better than the Kia is the Aesthetics (Outward appearance).
on consolation, the cruze also feels like this, like small engine pulling heavy body.. sonata also.. maybe they tuned it for that euro feel.. slow n steady driving What really spoilt the driving experience was the lack of torque at low end rpm.
