Can anyone confirm me will I get charged extra as long as I buy the cat6 cable and pull the cable over the ceiling myself from living room to my PC room? I will also buy the faceplate and keystone as well. All they do is to terminate it and fixed the faceplate onto the wall.

I am unwilling to do the termination myself as I have to buy extra tool which cost about RM 60. Buying the cable and faceplate will cost me RM 60 but not too bad compared to overall nonstandard installation cost of RM318. Please help as TM is going to come on Wednesday so I can get it done by tomorrow.

i dont think they charge you less if you done some stuff for them..
*
so you are saying they will still charge me full price even if they don't go above my plaster ceiling? there is already a PVC pipe under the concealed wall. It is very easy to push the cable down through the pipe from the roof to the wall socket. I tried it today. really not into paying so much for something so easy.

they charged you before?

umm, they pull cable from TM Pole, they drilled my room, and around 1.5m of Fiber Optics, to termination point. Then another Fiber Optics that included in the modem box..  Didn't even go up the ceiling, and the UNIFI supposed to be installed in my living room. Still, they charged full price.
*
my agent unifi told me all $$$ has to be agreed upon before work is started. if nothing can be agreed upon, i am to call him and he will arrange other contractors for me. in your case is not good as this is considered standard installation.

During my time, all the price is fixed, and I cant agree or disagree what price they'll offer. And I'm sure no other contractor I can choose, only what TM sent to me.

I dont really care about my installation, because Fiber modem + router are in my room, air conditioned, + all PCs are in my room. Lol. So, in my case, im good enough with it.

So, need to confirm with others first, because my installation was ages ago.
*
ok haha how was your wait time for a contractor then? right now I think I have more bargain power because I applied on Sun and this morning they are calling me they will come over TOMORROW. I postponed to Wednesday instead laugh.gif as that what I listed on the form.

I thought about the Maxis 10Mpbs earlier but I scared the latency is going to very sucky as everyone on there would be heavy downloaders. Oh no I can wait a few more mins downloading at ~600kbps vs ~1.0Mbps but latency is something more important for me.

why are you guys so paranoid. coming from a streamyx background if real throttling has been implemented for unifi your speed once it starts going down will never ever goes up back ever. they will keep on going down until they hit their sweet spot of 2.0kbps.

My past experience with streamyx was awesome. "WAS"... really was... It isn't awesome now. Badly throttled and routed. Gaming ain't smooth. Ping like shit. Download (the proper one, game client etc) ain't going smooth too  doh.gif

*No discussion of piracy thingy hhere, topic ends here. Sorry if I accidentally hurt you by any mean.*

oh yeah bro. those days DC never happens and heavy at the background too. it was too perfect but then we can't go back those days because our broadband penetration shoot up not until we lay more cables across the pacific. i hope there is an ongoing work right now.....

Hi,

I'm currently subscribed to UniFi5 using equipments supplied by TM. The problem I'm experiencing now is slow browsing speed (feels the same as my previous Steamyx 1Mb line) although SpeedTest tells me my connection is constantly achieving 4.5 to 4.8Mbps.
*
Me too! The browsing speed does not change that much but Youtube is amazing. Gone are the pause buffer days even at 480p haha. Now I'm playing mostly at 1080p and still able to watch the buffered bar racing to the finish line. Can't imagine this happening at 1Mbps. smile.gif

Diablo 3 is awesome too. Average latency is at a low of 250ms compared with Streamyx ~350ms. Just that Unifi is a bit unstable at times with their highest latency higher than Streamyx but most of the time only last for a short while.

Hey guys want to ask. Have TM finally fixed the DIR 615? Heard a lot about overheating issues which would in turn results in slower speeds. I have it under heavy usage for the past one week and so far it only feels warm to the touch both top and bottom. Ventilation is OK not inside cabinet but no fan and stuff.

Guys,

Need some help.

This morning wake up, found out that unifi is not working. Call them, lodge a case, technician came over and found out cable was chewed off by rat. Asked me why the contractor didn't cover the cable.

How would I know he didn't? I paid RM200 for the installation. So they called another contractor over, the contractor said, I need to call the initial contractor to fix it, if I wan them to fix it, I need to pay RM300.

So my question is, why is it become our problems? It's the contractor chosen by UNIFI and they didn't do their job properly at the first place now I need to call the contractor back. So what good is the UNIFI helpdesk?

Now the initial contractor can't be reach, and UNIFI helpdesk just ask me wait so they can investigate first and decide want to pay for me or not.

As for now, I'm without telephone and internet now. Any idea who I can contact to solve this? The helpdesk is just useless, call few times, gave few different answers. Only ask me to wait.

Yours was concealed over ceiling or through standard installation?

Concealed, UNIFI helpdesk said I sign off the resit means that I'm satisfied with the installation so I need to pay. How do we verified something that was concealed in ceiling? Should I climb up with the contractor as well when they install?

To make thing worst the initial contractor can't be reached now.  icon_question.gif

UNIFI helpdesk ask me wait, they want to decide who should pay. While they decide, I am without phone or internet.
*
Damn how can rats be at the ceiling. Did they put a rat bait while doing their work? Our ceiling is definitely not a good place to be in. Btw, you're living in a condo or landed? Sorry if I could not be much help.

Concealed, and landed, there will always be rat there
What a disappointment with their service, I hope they are more alt in broadband service in future
*
Have to be really unlucky with a stray rat. Our ceiling is just too hot for rats to make a nest there. I have been there you know. I sweat like f*** the very instant I lift myself up to the ceiling even at night. It feels the same night or day lol. Anyway my installer has a PVC pipe covering the fibre optic cable but they did not put it for my Cat6 cable. I guess they do it now because of too many complains as mine is a new installation.

My bad,its kB/s.

I'm not complaining, I'm just wondering because I've seen people with SS getting 1 MB/s dload speed with a VIP5. I'm glad that my speed is normal and correct. I neva thot of converting that 5Mbps into KBps. But now dat u showed me,thank you. It's clear enough for me now.

One more question, is it possible to increase this speed and how do those people with VIP5 get that XX MBps downlaod speed? Which thread can u refer me to please. I've tried looking around but it seems my searching skill is really bad. It boggles me dat we're all using d same ISP with d same package.

p.s. you are very patronizing. i respect u cuz u r more knowledgeable than me, n i dont know much about dis. if it weren't for ur knowledge,i cudnt care less. so,please,be patient with me.
*
If you have a laptop go to any Maxis centre and download away. You can get 3Mbps speed easily. But make sure you're the only one doing it.

Thank you for your reply.

The reason I am thinking to use Homeplug is to connect those OLD computers that do not have wifi device. Also thinking to use homeplug to connect network cable directly to the laptop and computer so that they can have better direct speed compare with using wireless speed which maybe a bit blocked from the wall in other rooms.

Also, can Homeplug able to use when connect to extension powerpoint plug?

use the usb wifi adapter. cheaper and lagi senang.

hmm ure problem is ure snr margin is bad.
Call them and ask whats the reading. Its suppose to be between -18 to -28 afaik.

also it looks like u have a loose cable somewhere or a broken glass in ure cable.

since fibre glass is inert and it doesnt emit any form of magnetism on static environment like a rainy day.
so its more on movement of the wire.

technically the only way in fibre glass wire to get affected by rain is
1. Broken Glass in ure cable
2. Loose cable
3. Exposed cable

i would check on this.

when u call tm ask them to check ure margins at different times.
*
when the inner fibre glass breaks, cable is exposed the whole line kong rain or no rain. no such thing as snr margin in fibre cables.

aiyo mana ada lemah

after been around here i notice

if u no tweak anything the you get a bit less than what you subscribe to

i.e. VIP 5 get 4.XX speedtest, VIP 20 get 19.XX speed test or even less

then those people who change router and tweak to open-wrt and dd-wrt they can boost over the subscribed
*
yeah they can set priority which i think is called it QoS. I wanted to try it as well but since my dlink router is not giving me any problems i wait first as I am happy with my line. Subscribe to Unifi 2 months ago and my 1TB HDD is finally filling up rclxm9.gif . Only had Windows and common software for over a year.
