All also good. I am using the TPLink 841.
The 1043 would be a good choice.

Any tips on what to do during a thuderstorm? I asked them when they were installing my Unifi and they said optical fibre carries no electrical signal and it should not be a problem? hmm.gif

I am just concerned as quite a number of times in the past with my Streamyx, my surge protector had to be replaced a few times due to lightning (which means lightning did strike and the protector worked). Since then, during thunderstorm I always remove my phone wire from my modem. But what about Unifi? If power outage I have a UPS running that can last for about 5 minutes, just in time for me to turn everything off.

For unifi you dont need to worry. Optical fiber carries no electric signal, its true !
However your modem/router still can blow if there is a surge from the grounding. A electrical surge protector can be a help. I remember changing 3 modems in 1 year bcos of surge. However with unifi (touchwood) its going good for 1 year now. I really take care of my equipments like a baby rolleyes.gif

i finally changed my router cry.gif

lesson learn: dunno why the router i bought TP-Link TL-WR1043ND with UNIFI sticker and UNIFI MODE to choose

i setup & reset so many times using the gudeline, of quick setup
cannot get my WLAN working

then i tried flash KLSEET firmware

a few hicups, dunno why the unifi password set back to "username" after i completed the setup ... then i re enter reboot

then it works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hai, I registered just so I can share this. The contractor is here right now (as I'm typing), I signed up for VIP10 package, all things are fine and smooth etc. The only thing that ponders me is the extra charge from unconventional installation, the contractor climbed up the roof and pulled the cable from the alley to the front door through the roof top, overall the operation is simple, while I do understand it probably exceeds the 15 meters limit of optic cable provided from the package. The contractor charged me RM 300 for the installation.

So I was wondering, in what aspect is he charging? Extra cable? Unconventional installation? Or both? I don't mind that much since the charge is going to be shared among other tenants. Just wondering if this is common or not, and might be useful for others..?

Thanks in advance, I'll share my first impression if possible after the installation is completed. :)

PS: The installation is almost done, connected and going strong.

try to negotiate.... I was charge 200 for outer casing.. the round protective tube of the black optic cable... since my house is 15m from the db box.. if you choose to pay... make sure everything is up and running and then sign and pay. if not you can call unifi now give your reason and ask for other contractor and probably new appt

My landlord keep warning me about contractors trying to charge extra $$, but I'll keep my fingers crossed. Right now everything is up and running, smooth operation overall. The only problem is the box is in the alley behind the house, and either through 2nd floor or through the rooftop will have extra charge, and since I wanna keep it simple I just told them to install it through the rooftop, less drilling and such. And they can't drill through the tiled wall of the kitchen so installation through the back is not possible D: that's what my landlord prefer anyway.

OK thanks. I can rest easy now knowing it will not be (hopefully) as bad as Streamyx lightning surges.
