One thing I like about classic Lego is that you are building stuff out of ordinary pieces and not specialize pieces unlike now. Like the airplane; the front part is made out of several normal bricks.

I so agree. Been in a pre mid life crisis of late so am looking to get back into old toys and hobbies i had as a kid - it was either gundams or lego. To my horror, Lego's seem to have both increased in price and became more 'kit' like. The Lego i remember were made up of very basic pieces, the single row thick block of varying lengths (1x, 2x 4x, 6x), the thin ones (1/3 the height of the thick blocks), standard wheel sets, men etc etc. All interchangeable. Nowadays i see specialised blocks more often than not and the remind me more of the old duplo and megablock.

I still have some leftover creations i made as a kid... will try photograph these next time i'm back home. Most were road vehicles, sorta inspired by zoids and micro machines, definitely influenced by Mad Max wink.gif , all built on the basic 2 x 2 wheel base, so only about 2x4 blocks in size.
