QUOTE(jesse @ Mar 4 2009, 11:26 PM) ya, trying to install some cables... The NXT comes with built-in bluetooth, which can be connected to any handphone with bluetooth for remote control purposes.but the place is quite big, long stick won't do... if it could i wouldn't have cracked my head over this... QUOTE Lynxmotion seems to be US based... a bit too high tech for my needs, i think... plus, it's gonna be very expensive too... It's very difficult (if not impossible) to find Lynxmotion products in M'sia cos they r usually used in uni for research purposes, plus they r EXPENSIVE !QUOTE anyway, i've recently visited a shop doing some NXT classes. According to them, NXT is quite "brittle"... any fall or hard knocks might result in some lego parts falling off.... unless i do something (forgot the term he used) to strengthen the joints by adding more lego parts...so the total cost would definitely be more than 1 set of NXT... Yes, NXT can be quite "brittle" if you do not know how to construct them properly but can be very strong if done correctly, the reason - LEGO is built for rapid assembly and disassembly with no special tools required except your hands. From my personal experience, 1 set of NXT is more than enough for most applications and a solid robot does not necessarily require lots of parts. QUOTE sadly, the VEXplorer is out of stock....sigh... anyone knows where to get one locally or have one for sale? VEX's situation is roughly similar with Lynxmotion - difficult to find & expensive...For versatility/availability/affordability sake, i'd say u should give NXT a try. Offer Eric a reasonable price and see whether you can get a good deal out of it |

QUOTE(ian90 @ Apr 5 2009, 01:44 PM) i feel that those themed sets have less replayability potential... I agree with you on that but those are the sets which sell the most, so we need ppl who buy those sets to keep LEGO in business otherwise we wont get to play with the next generation of TECHNICS & MINDSTORMS in the future coz most of the parts are customized... can hardly build anything other than the original one. Btw, most LEGO buyers are more collectors than MOCers. |

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Hey Ian, looks like we have a lot in common Monash University Malaysia............................checked Engineering...................................................checked Mechatronics.................................................checked LEGO Mindstorms RIS 1.5...............................checked Being involved NRC........................................checked LEGO being a big help in university projects......checked maybe we should hang out some time for coffee and share our ideas and thoughts. Btw, click my siggy to check out the malaysian mindstorms/technic blog and be a contributor if you feel like sharing anything about mindstorms/technic. UNCLE LEGO WANTS YOU ! Meanwhile, i'm working on an NXT version of the Traffic Buster from Prototype This and here's a video showing the actual prototype in action secretsquirrel - I was exposed to LEGO at a very young age (around 5 yr old maybe) and the influence it had on me was very similar to Ian. With robotics program such as NRC going on in the entire nation's primary and secondary schools nowadays, i believe LEGO's influence & contribution in creating the next generation of Malaysian scientists & engineers will be far beyond anything anybody could imagine...... |

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Some time ago i sort of found a formula through trial & error for estimating the price of to-be-released Technic sets based on the US pricing, and here's the formula: Malaysian price (RM) = US price (USD) X exchange rate (eg. 3.5) X 1.6 for example, 8295 Telescopic handler - USD 90.00 Malaysian price (RM) = 90.00 X 3.5 X 1.6 = 504 (actual price is 489.90) 8256 Go-Kart - USD 14.99 Malaysian price (RM) = 14.99 X 3.5 X 1.6 = 84 (actual price is 90.90) 8297 Off Roader - USD 119.99 Malaysian price (RM) = 119.99 X 3.5 X 1.6 = 672 (actual price is 668.00) |
