QUOTE(majorsinbad @ Jun 18 2012, 02:12 PM)
Going there is one thing....its the damage they ve caused to the place thats more worrying ...

My latest rant:

To whom it may concern,

First of all, I hope everyone enjoyed the recent haze especially those responsible for the development of Bukit Kiara so called 'Public Park'. Looking at the destruction they have caused to our gazetted Green Lung I am sure they must have enjoyed the haze so much that they continue to massacre the area; cutting down trees and destroying the natural rivers in Kiara.

I would like to quote Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Chor Chee Heung recent article in The Star dated Sunday June 3, 2012 where it was mentioned:

"Chor said the Government knew that some people and NGOs were anxious over the preservation of the hill and that was why it took steps to gazette it as a public park and upgrade it."

I am very sure Datuk Seri has not looked at the handy work done by the bulldozers at Kiara, I ll even be surprised if he has ventured into Kiara at all. Just look at the pictures I have attached, are those what he called preservation? These are just a few pictures,it is much worst if you came and look at it yourself. It is very sad to see how they have done a good job at damaging the forest and the rivers. With all due respect Datuk Seri, please check your facts before you come out with such statement.

As mentioned Kiara is so special because of its natural state and it is the nearest (apart from FRIM) to the concrete jungle of KL city. God gave us this beauty and we are really good at destroying it. Ask everyone who goes to Kiara the reason they go there is because of the clean air and its natural state. We dont need a man made jogging/bicycle track, if we wanted to we would have gone to the park in front of One Utama and PCP bicycle track in Putrajaya. One needs to realise there is a reason why both places are less popular...because they re man made. You cant compare God's work with man.

I am thankful to Ketua Pengarah Jabatan Landskap Negara En Esa Hj Ahmad who explained the following:
Adalah dimaklumkan bahawa kerja-kerja pemagaran kawasan yang telah ditetapkan sebagai Taman Persekutuan Bukit Kiara telah diputuskan setelah mengambil kira isu, aduan dan pandangan pelbagai pihak dari pengguna, pelaksana dan agensi penguatkuasa. Antaranya adalah:

masalah pencerobohan,
Feedback: May we know what kind of pencerobohan specified? Which area has the penverobohan taken place? Can these fence stop the illegal entry?
penempatan haram,
Feedback: Yes there are a few illegal pondoks in Kiara but does it justify the fencing? How many illegal squatters have they identified and caught? Are there a numbers to support this? Is fencing the answer to this? Does the numbers justify it?
ancaman keselamatan
Feedback:With the way they have leveled the trees and areas Im not sure how it will make things safer. If anything erosion is more likely to occur and endanger people using the trails
kawalan aset kawasan dan aset kerajaan
Feedback:What assets is this referring to?

Bottom line is what are the benefits that will be realized from fencing the area up and turning it into a public park? I hope PAC goes and audit this project as I am sure there are a lot of people who would want to see how it was justified.

Pembinaan pagar berkenaan telah mengambil kira semua keperluan akses dan pelbagai lagi. Ia tidak menghalang pihak-pihak yang berkepentingan untuk menggunakan kawasan tersebut untuk tujuan rekreasi.

Feedback: Again just like Datuk Seri, I think En Esa also has not looked at what is being done at Kiara.

Please take time to look at this link/video; it will teach everyone a thing or two about developing an area without damaging its natural state. It will also give you an idea how beautiful Kiara can be. (before this that is)

http://www.klmbh.org/post/23517145678/trai...by-pat-brunsdon

I would like to clearly state that I do not belong to any particular organization, political party, NGO or anything like that. I am just a normal tax paying Malaysian citizen who hopes to preserve something as unique like Kiara for our future generation. The last thing I want is for it to turn into a political agenda.

Before I sign off lets all take a deep breath and enjoy the hazy air for what we do... seems to encourage it even further. Our kids and future generation will get to enjoy more haze and unclean air as we cut down trees and level Kiara just to make parking lots, fences and concrete trails.

I guess who needs green lungs when its the haze type air that we yearn for....
Thank you.

Regards,

Firdaus Zulkifli

PS: I hope KLMBH organization and Patrick Brunsdon do not mind me using the pictures and videos as its the only one I can find, I was desperate. Please reply/forward the email if you care about Kiara. At least 'Pihak Berkepentingan' will see that we care about it....spread the word lets submit a memorandum. For Kiara deserves it after all that it has done for us...

Go to Taman Rimba Kiara where the parking and bike wash and toilet are situated. Got people exercise there.

Not recommended IMO. If you want 120mm travel, get Spez Camber or Giant Trance.

Off-roading during the night is serious business.
One does not simply go off-road if not familiar with trail.

Bro, realized that after watching some videos last night. Would like to go there
during day time first.

Just for my info, does Kiara has tarmac road for cylcing or just trails? And say for beginners, where shall i start, as in which location of Kiara itself?
*
Kiara has tarmac roads. For beginners, I suggest the 2k trail. It starts at the first pondok you'll see after cycling up from the entrance (guard house and past the water reservoir).

upgrade straightaway from XCM to 2012 Epicon X1 fork with remote. since I need that remote function and lighter fork. just realize that Epicon is among of the top of their lineup. surprisingly the price is a steal. even the low entry rockshox tk (coil) cost slightly higher than this.

Just keep in mind that fork is more than just weight smile.gif
