If I were to look a bike around 4 ~5k price range, which gears / spec should I look for?

I came from road bike and have zero knowledge on MTBs..

Thinking into getting a new MTB or not.. But will cycle on road mostly instead..

Of all the Jamborees I ve attended ....Burung Hantu has to be the best ....is well organized, trail difficulty is just nice ...not so hard not too easy ....prizes are great too....

I try not to miss this event, but for me Jamborees you ll need Hardtail ...now no hardtail I malas a bit hahah...
But bear in mind some riders   selamba use Downhill Ready bike like Trek Garu (mat salleh say Trek Scratch)
to Burung Hantu ...

Im a flashaholic so lighting no problem  Just need to know more details about the track condition and duration. Yeah read about some bottlenecks on the trail and people were pushing like crazy. 

Why need hardtail for jamboree? Even so just replace shock with batang kayu and you are ready to go..

I dont mind to try off-road experience first then learn from it and see what i really need to change or rather no need to haha.
I feel that the obvious is to get rear suspensions too but thats gonna take time to save up for 

definitely lots to learn from you guys...wise man told me don't get too hasty to spend on solutions but instead experience thy situation/problem first to know which solution to purchase

Anyway, ztr rim is over rated.
If u shop for new rim, dt and mavic is still making better rim.

Tires exploding from rims happens before from what I read. Especially with ZTR rims. Reason being, ZTR rims are made slightly larger than normal rims so that tubeless conversion of normal tires are easier and tubeless tires (UST and etc) are made slightly smaller to that it will seal well. So if you put a larger rim and a smaller tire together, chances are something will give. You're lucky you set it up with tube, not NoTubes Stans or your face will be full of white thick residue... LOL

Not sure with Nevegal but Schwalbe did mentioned on their website that it's not compatible with ZTR rims (but I do know a few guys who has that combo working well though)

Never remount a tire that has blowout. Chances are the kevlar beads has already schredded and accident waiting to happen.

....but Save Kiara gig was proof it does work ....but you need to work with them....even if they dont support you ...

I hope we don't have to drive so far just to ride trails later in the future.

Whenever I ride my bike @ Kiara, the basket rattles like mad. Anyway to tighten it?

I started to have interest in cycling again after leaving my cheap mountain bike (from credit card points redemption) and thinking of buying a better mountain bike or a road bike.

It is rusting now, so I guess I have to polish and clean it up again and see if it is able to cater for what I want before deciding on a new bke.

yea man. although the Pike works perfectly for Kiara and PCP, it didnt hold up well for constant rooty downhill. i set the rebound at medium because i dont want it to be like a pogo, but the fork dived man.

only got SLX 38-26T...
so still searching...
