ok.... only talk about hydraulic.
the only reason to mix is because of doubt in point 2.
now since it is confirm shimano disc can fit to other hub, then no need to mix liao.

note: i am keen to upgrade to XT, but could consider upgrade the shimano hub later.
btw- it is once of the LBS owner that told me shimano cannot fit to non shimano hub- unless you modify something ( i dunno what)

now- the credibility of the LBS is in doubt.
Btw- he also advice that if you have a 2.3" tyre, and a 2.1 tyre- it is better to fit the 2.3 tyre infont so it is heavier and won't endo.

I was like..... HUHHHHH... u sure?
How much weight does the different make? even spinning dynamic force also not much la... since climbing is low speed.
*
Bigger tire infront so you have more control. Anyway, Shimano has centrelock and 6-bolts. If you're talking about centrelocks, quite a few wheel manufacturers have shimano-compatible hubs e.g Mavic, Fulcrum. Rotors are still rotors. If rotor is different brand than brake system, it's okay. Best rotor I used so far would be Hope Saw rotor. thumbup.gif

Yup ...fatter tyre in front....
You can go for thinner tyre for the back actually ...
I go for grip in front ...faster rolling at the back ...
Front: size ie: 2.2-2.25
Front tyre: More grip ie: Nevegal, Noby Nics, Ardent
Rear: size 2.0-2.1
Rear Tyre: Faster Rolling: ie: High Roller, Rocket Rons

But that me la ...different people different style ...preference ....it also depends on your riding style and trail too ...

If XC then you go for fast rolling ...less nobby tyres ...
Trail/AM you want more grip, breaking, cornering ...u go for more nobby tyre

Same goes for the brake rotor...
Go big in front ....cause thats where the breaking power comes from

Guys,
Anyone using ZTR Flow Rim? I am considering between Arch and Flow as I ride trail in the weekend and on road in the weekdays.

The problem is I found that ZTR Flow rim ID is extremely wide 22.3MM if not mistaken compared to Arch ID 19mm.

I am currently runs Maxxis Detonator and Larsen TT for road and some XC.

Plan to get Nevegal or Crossride for Kiara.
*
You mean Maxxis Crossmax? rolleyes.gif

QUOTE(cheewooi @ Aug 2 2012, 05:43 PM)
My question is if I got new wheelset (Hope EVO Pro 2 with ZTR Flow). I don't think Maxxis Detonator can fit into the  Flow rim.
*
ZTR Flow has got awesome reviews. And why would you want to fit a Detonator? Ride knobby on road for training. flex.gif

QUOTE(cheewooi @ Aug 2 2012, 05:43 PM)
Any advice? BTW what other hub recommended beside Hope EVO Pro 2.

The damage cost for Hope EVO Pro 2 and ZTR Flow is around RM1.78K? Is that expensive or reasonable?

Thanks
*
IINM, last I check it was a bit cheaper than that. Around RM1.5k ~ RM1.6k. But that was like a few months ago. icon_idea.gif

IMO, flow is too wide for detonator and xc ride la...flow is heavy and meant for am or dh la.

You want light rim.... Go for arch or crest.
Need to check if detonator can mount on 21mm or not. They are very narrow.
*
Heavy? For me Flow is light already. Crest? Super uber light sweat.gif

ZTR Flow is 460g
ZTR Crest is 340g
Mavic XM719 is 460g
Mavic EX721 is 590g

I put talcum powder so that it smells nice inside the tire.

IINM is to reduce friction between tube and tire.

sifus, need help...am googling bout avis elixir cr mag brakes...d brake is ok or not??n i found they keep saying bout hav to bleed d brake n sumthin like dat..can sum1 enlighten me wat brakes bleeding mean,,, rclxub.gif
*
Avid Elixirs are notorious for their problems (piston not fully retracting, leads to uneven pad wear, leads to wailing banshee kinda sound when braking)
Bleeding it would be one of the way to solve this.
This is bleeding.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IoaPUw5DliA
But then, I think it is the most used brakes around here. I've own two sets of Elixir Rs. What I've learn from it is, not to use the original Avid G3 rotors as it warps easily. Secondly, if there is a problem, send it to Bicycle World Melawati, look for Salim.

I am running Avid XO Silver. After 2 rides in Kiara, found my read brake sounding like abs can feel the piston moving around. Maybe it is what you mention wailing banshee kinda sound.

Added on August 7, 2012, 10:43 am

I am using Maxxis Larsen TT 1.9 both front and back. Crash in Kiara 2K during start of the trail where there's something like drop off step.

I think I didn't lay back enough, went down and flipped over the bar. Bruises on my left elbow, knee and shoulder.

Anyone think riding in Kiara we need to wear elbow and knee pad? Had crash a few times.. This time is the worst cause went down quite fast speed.  doh.gif

Heh, this is lie... marketing lie.
i just fell last sunday, clip on something while high speed descent. And yes- the seatpost is at the lowest.

It does help though- allow more control with it lowered.

now as we on seat post- is it only mine that i cannot re-extend when the button is pressed? or everyone face the same issue?

I need to use both the thigh to "kiap" it up again, with the button press.
Currently using reverb, and the pressure is 90 psi.
*
Nope. No problem. I think you might not have enough PSI in it. From Googling, the PSI should be at 250psi. So, yours is WAAAAAAAYYYY off...

I think mostly my body position wrong. IMHO when downhill I should shift my weight way back as I am 105KG heavy! Yes 105KG! The pants I wore was riding pants but with 2 later where outter layer more of little baggy. I found that it sometimes stuck with my saddle where the movement a little restricted.

IMHO, I am using flat bar, thus might be little uncomfortable when going down.

I read somewhere that your eyes must see the direction of the trail not look down on the road where your bike goes? How true is that?

I knew most of the time when I look at the ground of front wheel, that's there I goes and endo.
