Hey guys,

So I'm considering joining WoW Retail (US) for the first time, and I've noticed that I'd have to shell out a huge chunk of money to begin with. So I was wondering what the most affordable way of getting into this game would be, or if I'm missing out anything from my current plans. Do help me out with your opinions, please. 8)

So I'm thinking that I'll get the World of Warcraft BattleChest + Wrath of the Lich King Bundle at about RM120, and start playing through Recruit-a-Friend for the first few months, capping at level 70? This would mean that I'd forgo the level 71-80 bonuses for the exp though, but I'd probably benefit from waiting till November or so for the Black Friday Sale or Christmas offers to get Cata and MoP at a much more discounted price?

I don't anticipate being a hardcore player, maybe casual enough to take a few months breaks in-between, so I won't be paying for each month until November, just a few months here and there?

Is this the best and/or cheapest method out there (not including private servers la)? Or do you think it's possible some better offers will appear sometime soon, like would MoP's release make all the other expansions on offer? I'm mainly thinking of joining a friend on Wyrmrest Accord's realm on the US servers.

* Also, and this is just a maybe, since Refer-a-Friend will offer the referrer a free 30-days period and special mount for a purchase of 60 days gameplay, if someone doesn't mind bearing part of the costs of my purchases, I don't mind signing up under your referral too (of course, we'd have to discuss how this would work, but I'm up for something like this).

* /EDIT:/ Thanks to MasterRamen for the idea: Would it be better/legal if I just buy someone's old WoW account and use the Scroll of Resurrection to get the free upgrade to Cata?

Any advice, gamers? D':

Go for the WoW Battle chest + Wotlk bundle, you will be accessing content up until level 80, leveling to 80 with RAF exp boost isn't really a problem, you can done that in 1 week time if you're familiar with the game.

Furthermore with the battle chest you will get 30 days access to the ame as well if i'm not wrong, this is by far the cheapest way if you wanna play WoW US.

Otherwise, go play WoW TW, you can use WoW US client and access into Taiwan server, everything will be in english except for players.

Benefit of playing in Taiwan server is low ping, about 7x to 100ish, you don't have to purchase expansions, you get to access the whole content by just buying the time card, cheapest available for casuals are RM18 for 30 hours play time.

Thanks for your advice guys.

Yeah, the WoW Taiwan thing is out of the question because of the language, and the fact that my WoW friends (mostly American) are on the US servers.

Do you guys think there will be any offers by Blizzard during the middle of this year? Or are their offers only at the end of the year?

u a bit unlucky...

if u buy wow classic before march n let the account inactive...u can get scroll of resurrect which will give u free upgrade to cata...save u hundred of ringgit...plus u get free lvl 80

guess u have to buy the wow battlechest + wotlk + cata...
another way...buy old acc from anyone in here which entitle to get scroll of resurrect..im sure many of them have wow classic old acc before

MasterRamen, that's actually a brilliant idea, thanks!

I'm definitely considering buying someone's old account instead and using the Scroll of Ress. If I do this, will the be any problems in the future? Is it technically legal, and/or will the seller still be able to con me or grab back his account after the sale? I don't want to get accidentally tricked and end up having no rights to the account.

it not legal to buy acc anyway...if u do..buy only from ur close friends or trusted ppl only...but it not recommended to do it. but that the only way for u to save hundred of ringgit...

u can just get old acc from ppl in lowyat...many of them not playing anymore and have many old acc inactive for long time.

I don't recommend to buy people's account.

What you can do is do pay as you go model. Firstly you just buy the regular battlechest (you can sometimes find very cheap on the Internet , people who want to clear up old stock). Level up till 70

Then slowly upgrade. Probably , if I were you I would wait till pandas arrive , probably they would throw a promotion anyway

Won't the MoP expansion be released like... December 2012 or later though? Is there a certain reason why you don't recommend I buy or be given someone else's account? O:

If you're thinking to get account from someone else, better get it from people that you're trusted, preferably someone you're closed to.

If you get from someone from online, unless you're able to get the email changed to your own email (which i doubt its possible), and also get all his original copies of the starterpack and expansions, fail to do so might get your account "hacked" back by the real owners because he has all the expansion that can prove that the account is his.
