Hi everyone,
I had just recieve my SPM result recently and I am lost for which path of study should I choose to continue studying accountancy. Which is better? Going for gov matriculation>UM/USM>ACCA or going for private institution to take perhaps a foundation/diploma>degree>ACCA or CAT>ACCA? Which is a good choice to be made? Btw, I got all A's(7A+,2A), LCCI-band 1,1119-1A.
Hope you guys would lend me a help. Thanks. smile.gif

If you want a fast route, take the CAT/ACCA route.

If you want a slower, safe, and easy route, take the govt matriculation>UM/USM route. Anyway, if you take this route, you don't need ACCA anymore. MIA recognises the accountancy degrees from public unis. So, there is no need for one to take a professional exam anymore.

Each route has its pros and cons. CAT/ACCA route is fast but it won't give you a strong foundation in research, if you wish to pursue a postgraduate degree, you might face a culture shock. However, taking this route gives you a very strong technical knowledge in accountancy.

Going for the degree route would give you a stronger foundation in research but it is a slower route compared to ACCA.

So, it's your choice.

Thanks for helping.
You said credible institution, may you reccommend me for any?
Well, since I am from a not really rich family, my parents asked me to go for gov matriculation and later on to UM/USM to continue my degree. However, I heard that we must obtain a CGPA of 4. How is it like compared to the old SPM standard? Is it like getting all A+ or all A's? Is it a good choice going for the path?

Hi there, thx for helping  biggrin.gif
If I take the gov matiruculation>UM/USM I do not need ACCA anymore? But if I take it in the future is that meant I will be able to have a better prospect in job? Perhaps like higher salary or etc? Another thing, is it right after graduating I will be a MIA member automatically without waiting for like 3 years of working experiences? Btw, which path is more likely to have a better prospect? Like an employee's choice of hiring? icon_question.gif
So sorry for asking to much. sweat.gif

Having an ACCA will give you a wider prospect globally.

No, you will not get the MIA membership automatically. After graduating from a public university, you need to work for 3 years to gain the accounting experience in order to apply for MIA membership. Of course, you can always choose to study ACCA as an additional professional qualification.

MIA or ACCA? Does employer really care? I don't think so. What they need to see is that you are a Chartered Accountant. What's more important is your job performance and your attitude in the workplace. Even the Big Four firms are sponsoring its employees to study the MIA Qualifying Exams, MICPA, or any other professional exams. So, the Big Four do not give preference over one professional exam to another.

Guys, whats the point of getting of OBU since I'll getting my ACCA cert also??
*
OBU = academic degree

ACCA = professional qualification (not an academic degree)

Professional qualification prepares one to work in the working world.

An academic degree prepares one for critical thinking and writing, analytical writing...etc, which are meant for postgraduate studies. That's why if one study an accounting degree in a university, you will notice that there are lot of assignment questions and research being handed out to students.

If you want to apply to study for a postgraduate degree (Masters and above), you need to have a degree cert. Some universities do not allow one to use ACCA as a pre-requisite qualification to apply for Masters courses. I have asked this before. So, no choice but to do OBU.

Then do u think is possible to self study instead of go for d classes?
Then just attend d revision class before final.
*
Yes, it's possible. Many students do that and they passed.

When I was still an ACCA student many years ago, I hardly paid any attention in class. Instead, those who sit at the front and paid close attention were the ones failing....LOL....

I believe self-discipline and self-study are more important than any other factors. No matter how good the lecturer is but if one does not study, that student will still fail.

It is possible to self study any of the ACCA papers. Many did that and passed easily.

Not taxable simply means it does not incur tax e.g if you earn less than RM2400/m, your income is not taxable.

Tax exempt means although taxable under normal circumstances, you don't have to pay for a specified duration of time. It's a form of concession. E.g Interest income earned from bank savings.

Thanks for the explanation. smile.gif

If I were you, I'd probably review the P5 past exam papers and sample answers. Have you asked accountant Blofeld regarding this matter? ohmy.gif

Haha

Exactly, I would look at the PYQ too.

To me, lecture notes are useless.

Babygirl, what you need are: textbook + revision kit + PYQ.

Practice, practice, and practice...

Practise the same question over and over again....that's the key.
